My client is looking to appoint a Hydraulic Modeller to work on a variety of flood risk projects based in their Birmingham office.

Competent in at least 2 of the following software packages: a) ISIS / Flood Modeller, b) TUFLOW, c) Infoworks ICM.

The Job
Our client are looking for a Modeller to strengthen our fluvial modelling team in the Midlands. Our client delivers projects for a range of clients such as water companies, local authorities and regulators such as the Environment Agency and Natural Resources Wales.
The successful candidate will enjoy working within a team, be enthusiastic, self-motivated and able to work with relatively little supervision. They will be aiming to develop their technical skills and should be working towards a professional qualification with CIWEM or other relevant professional body.
Due to the wide range of projects we deliver, there are opportunities to have early responsibility for leading projects as well as involvement in a variety of schemes.
We are looking for a Hydraulic Modeller to support delivery of modelling work on a range of flood risk management studies and infrastructure projects. The role will involve developing, adapting and running 1d, 2d and 1d-2d hydraulic models and interpreting and communicating model results. There will also be opportunities to support relevant internal research and development projects.
This modeller will work with others on projects such as flood risk assessments, catchment flood management strategies, drainage strategies, dam breach analysis, river modelling and Project Appraisal Reports.
Strong academic background in a relevant technical degree, preferably one that includes module(s) on hydraulics and/or hydrology.
At least 18 months experience in flood modelling for a UK based consultancy or authority, including development and use of river models.
Competent in at least 2 of the following software packages: a) ISIS / Flood Modeller, b) TUFLOW, c) Infoworks ICM.
Competent in GIS for flood risk applications.
Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
Good communication and report writing skills (in fluent English).
Other experience and skills that would be beneficial
Hydrology experience including use of FEH CD-ROM and/or WinFAP.
Programming / scripting such as Vbasic, python etc.
Coastal modelling, e.g. using Eurotop methodology.
Economic analysis and flood damage calculations.
Experience of water quality and/or sediment modelling.
