Our client is looking for an experienced design Technician or Engineer to join their Highways team in Guildford.

Full understanding of Civils 3D and ability to produce detailed design work

The Job
• Full understanding of Civils 3D and ability to practically apply and use all aspects of the package in the preparation of detailed design work;
• Comprehensive working knowledge of Highway Authority requirements for approvals / agreements (inc. drainage discharge consents);
• Effervescent character who has in depth experience and confidence in communicating with key external bodies, i.e. Highway Authorities (inc. Highways England), other Statutory Authorities (inc. Environment Agency and Utility Companies), Clients, Contractors, Quantity Surveyors, Solicitors, Survey Companies;
• An ambition to grow Design Team and actively pursue current and new work streams / clients, develop a plan, and pursue on their own initiative;
• A demonstration of strong internal team leadership skills…team management, experience in managing teams across more than one geographical location, training, coordination with and the ability to work alongside other senior members of staff within the organisation;
• Ability to manage / work on multiple projects, at various stages, in a cost effective manner and at the same time, and to be proactive in managing multiple deadlines and to be able to manipulate workloads of the Design Team to meet these objectives;
• Ability to provide clear, concise advice to Transport Planning colleagues on workable highway solutions at the pre-planning / feasibility stage – inc. accurate advice on the likely cost implications of such workable solutions;
• A person who has access to a car at all times, is willing to travel between the North & South offices, as required, and prepared to make meetings / site visits at any location in the UK at the time, as reasonably required by the client / contractor / highway authority, which may require working extended hours on occasions;
• A person who is fully conversant with the risk assessment requirements of CDM Regulations and Health & Safety Regulations (inc. safety requirements on-site);
• Experience of assisting clients through Tender process – may inc. preparation of / input to Tender documents, preparing lists of appropriate contractors, reviewing tender returns / attending contractor interviews, making final recommendations to clients;
• Experience of providing supervisory role on behalf of the client or novated contractor during the construction period of the works;
• Ability to set up and maintain accurate up-to-date database of key contacts (e.g. contractors, QS’s, key personnel at utilities companies);
• Experience of establishing drawing standards / protocols for roll-out company-wide;
• A working knowledge / experience of BIM (current project management tool being pushed on many projects) and how that may apply to our business, going forward
• Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) accredited
• Other experience (not essential but beneficial):
- Safety Audit Qualifications
- Flood Risk Assessment
- Site-wide drainage strategies (e.g. SUDS)
