SECURITY CONSCIOUS Qualified Steam Boiler/ Plumber HMP Maidstone, Kent: Ongoing rolling contract

Overview of the position:
As the sole agency supplier to the HM Prison Service for the provision of maintenance trades & support operatives, Hays is seeking to recruit multiple qualified trades with CSCS, including a Qualified Steam Boiler/ Plumber with City & Guilds or NVQ Level 2 in Steam Boilers & Plumbing with CSCS / JIB for Maidstone Prison, Kent.

This is a Temporary Contract starting ASAP, initially for a 3 month contract. This is like to be extended further. You must be local to the area, have City & Guilds or NVQ Level 2 and CSCS. This Long-term Temporary Contract is based on a shift pattern, working one weekend in every three, in return there will be rest days during the week. There is opportunity on your rest days to work overtime at the prison or complete your own private works. When weekends are worked this will be paid at an overtime rate.

The rate is negotiable between £15 - £19 per hour depending on experience. This is paid via an umbrella PAYE company/ own limited company . A direct PAYE option is available at a reduced hourly rate. Purpose of the Maintenance role:

As part of the Works Department you will be responsible for both reactive repairs and planned and preventative maintenance on the Steam Boilers.
Kent Prisons have an excellent reputation as busy local prisons, which serve all the courts in the South East. They pride themselves in engaging and involving employees working alongside them in the process of change. The Maintenance role is in a unique working environment with a strong sense of team working. Always in demand, you could benefit from long-term contracts and there is also potential, once trained, to work in other prisons both locally and nationally. You must be local to the prison or have your own transport.

The prison is looking for a qualified Steam Boiler Plumber, ideally with maintenance experience. You will be required to carry out varied duties such as reactive repairs & small planned projects and maintenance. City & Guilds or NVQ Level 2 and a valid CSCS/ JIB Card is essential. Time served applicants or lower level editions will not be considered.
Previous experience in a prison/ public sector is not required for this role. The nature of the role requires candidates to be security conscious and able to challenge potential compromises and risks, you will also need to be reliable and consistent, level headed and have exceptional interpersonal skills. Full training on working within a prison is provided by the establishment/ department.

Security Clearance required:
All applicants will be subject to the HM Prison Service Security Clearance procedure which can take up to 3 weeks, this can include a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check. You must hold a Valid Passport or Birth Certificate & Photo Driving Licence in your current address. All applicants must be able to provide details of 2 satisfactory references, at least one from an ex-employer.
