General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for an Software Test Engineer to join our team. The position provides an opportunity to develop the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's fundamental defense services. Key Responsibilities

The SoftwareTest Engineer for DDG-1000 (Zumwalt-class ships) will work closely with Raytheon and be responsible for providing the USN Crew and contractors with an understanding of the existing DDG-1000 Software. Primary duties include:
  • Provide training to USN Crew and contractors in the maintenance and troubleshooting of Software issues
  • Assist as needed in the maintenance and repair of the Software on the DDG-1000 class ships.
  • Perform System Installation, Integration, and Test
  • The candidate directly interfaces with USN, other government agencies and various contractors

The Software Test Engineer candidate coordinates the Hardware and Software Integration and Test activities alone with at-sea test requirements with the Post Delivery & Trials Coordinator. The candidate directly interfaces with GDMS technical management, Prime Contractor's engineering leads and U.S. Government engineers. The candidate coordinates with DDG-1000 design engineering team in development of specifications for all work packages.

The Software Test Engineer will be based in Bath MA and will support the ship, including travel to other domestic ports and OCONUS ports as appropriate. The selected candidate will eventually be expected to travel 30% of the time supporting for DDG-1000 (Zumwalt-class ships) in a post-delivery environment. The candidate will work within the parameters and rules common to U.S. Naval vessels.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Monitor CPU Utilization for Linux applications via Linux terminal
  • Installation and configuration of Windows/Compose Operating System
  • Installation and configuration of networked COTS products to the system
  • Create and maintain user logins on Linux and ship's different HCI's
  • Grooming, recording, and verifying Software Trouble Reports.
  • Startup and shutdown Data Center Hardware and Software
  • Remotely control processes, Servers and Application
  • Work with local and remote RTN/BIW SME's/ Developers to troubleshoot systems
  • Perform HW/SW Integration
  • The candidate will be responsible for working with a team of technicians, engineers, and government staff as appropriate
  • Exercise creative thinking to advance our technical performance
  • Deliver innovative, flexible, integrated solutions to meet customer's changing business needs
  • Support and engage in programs, projects and practices behind the GDMS culture and strategy, and comply with all policies and procedures
  • Follow industry and department trends and developments to ensure General Dynamics Mission Systems services are consistent with, and/or superior to, industry best practices

Basic Qualifications:

Candidates must demonstrate a passion for innovation, a sophisticated understanding of the need for formal engineering documentation of the design and the ability to effectively develop and evolve GDMS technology, process and documentation.

The Software Engineer position requires a Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering or the equivalent, and zero to two years of related experience or a master's degree in Software Engineering or the equivalent and zero years of experience.

Department of Defense Secret security clearance is preferred within a reasonable amount of time. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
