Business Systems Analyst - Software - Agile - Bristol - £35-40K

The primary purpose of the Business Systems Analyst will be to manage the inception stages of requested projects: determining initial requirements and setting the broad direction for individual projects in line with the IT Strategy. This includes preparing the groundwork for projects with a significant development component and identifying off-the-shelf options where appropriate. The job will support the link between business users and IT development staff working in an agile environment. This entails building an understanding of the business processes that underpin the organisation and how these are supported by technology solutions. Ultimately the Business Systems Analyst will use this understanding to help the business integrate and improve processes by refining the technology.


* Experience of business systems analysis in an agile environment
* Experience of gathering requirements from users at all levels and documenting them
* Experience of identifying potential areas for improvement in existing systems
* Experience of working with developers on complex software projects including web based systems
* Experience of working alongside all levels of management
* Experience of setting User Acceptance Test definitions
* Development of information systems for the Government sector

Knowledge and learning

* Strong business systems analysis skills
* Analysis skill Certification
* Knowledge and experience of a range of techniques to draw out detailed requirements from stakeholders. For example formal interview, informal discussions, questionnaires, meetings and workshops
* Knowledge of Agile frameworks (e.g. Scrum) and behaviour driven development
* Reasonable general knowledge of relevant technologies (SQL database, Web systems)


* Evidence of ability to pay attention to detail
* Able to communicate confidently and easily with both the business and ITS staff at all levels
* Evidence of good listening skills
* Good quality writing using house-style and tailored to the audience. The writing may typically include systems requirements and systems design documentation.
* The ability to explain technical matters in lay terms as necessary


* Ability to form harmonious relationships with immediate team, other colleagues (including senior officers) and other organisations
* Advice is offered in a helpful and timely manner
* Undertakings to others are met fully and on time
