Is knowledgeable of typical MNC new product development practices, knows what “great” looks like in the context of a high performing R&D functional organization, and has the ability to quickly assess, lead, monitor and deliver high quality technical work product to remote new product development teams.
Has significant (5 years) experience in leading embedded systems design team including having responsibility for hiring and the development of a multi-discipline technical team consisting of hardware, firmware and mechanical engineering professionals.
Understands the factors influencing project cycle time, and has the proven ability to implement practices that result in reductions in over-all project time to completion.
Designs, implements, measures and executes processes to assure design quality expectations are met in product design.
Is an effective leader of people who understands how to formulate meaningful, achievable project development goals and objectives, knows how to identify and develop employee talent, and understands the challenges associated with satisfying key stakeholders.
Drives a high level of awareness and appreciation for the importance of high quality products, and influences and inspires all of associates to do their best to provide high quality products.
Lead the Security Products technical team in the Johnson Controls engineering center in Bangalore from inception to a team of approximately 45 people in the first year, growing significantly each year over the next 3 years.
Identify exceptional candidates to hire into the Security Products engineering team in Bangalore to fill pre-defined roles to serve as a remote engineering support team.
Working with leadership in the principal design centers located in Toronto and Tel Aviv, coordinate the training and development of software, hardware and mechanical engineers to prepare them to be contibuting members of the over-all engineering team of the business.
Establish the internal engineering team management structure and metrics to provide feedback and performance leadership to the local team.
Establish the communication methods and review cadence with remote design centers to provide regular updates on project work and progress on the training and development of the technical skills of the Bangalore team.
Provide superior leadership to the local Bangalore team to minimize employee turnover and provide a positive work NA:
Bachelor Degree in a technical field is required, Advanced degree strongly preferred
10 years of experience leading and growing a remote adjunct engineering team in Bangalore, with at least 5 years in a team leadership capacity (at least 50 team members)
5 years of leading an embedded systems engineering team in Bangalore as part of a large MNC engineering organization.
Experience managing at least a $2M engineering budget and in leading a multi-cultural, multi-disciplined engineering team.
Significant experience establishing a new engineering team in Bangalore from 0, and in establishing a good working partnership with onshore engineering centers.
Experience in the security products industry is preferred, but not required.
Solid leadership presence and ability to lead and develop top engineering talent.
