Job title: Configuration Specialist
Reports to: Configuration Manager

Job Overview
The Configuration Specialist provides pre-sales configuration support within a Deal Operation hub team for direct and Tier 1/Tier 2 indirect business in EMEA. Maintains an expert level knowledge of HDS solutions and technical configuration requirements to satisfy customer needs. Works closely with field sales and other Deal Operations personnel (Pricing Analyst, Channel Support) to achieve responsiveness and configuration accuracy meeting agreed SLA's.

Key Functions
  • First port of call for configuration of deals at request of the field.
  • Responsible for solution configuration within HDS' Quoting systems while meeting configuration responsiveness and accuracy SLA's.
  • Maintain expert level knowledge of HDS solutions, product components and configuration requirements.
  • Assist with the early adoption of new product technologies by including solution components within configurations whenever applicable.
  • Communicate impact and performance characteristics of configuration to field sales.
  • Work with field sales personnel to proactively identify issues, develop recommendations and implement solutions to increase field sales productivity.
  • Maintain technical competence and awareness of market developments.

  • Maintain inventory awareness and advise projected lead times to sales teams.
  • Proactively communicate with field sales districts to uncover changing business needs, opportunities or issues of concern.
  • Proactively communicate with other Configuration Specialists and Pricing Analysts to uncover changes in requirements and to distribute job related information.

  • Advise Configuration Manager on specific resource requirements and personnel issues that affect ability to support field sales activity.
  • May be chosen to act as local Deal Operations hub Supervisor or to stand in for said supervisor during absences.

Required Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred.
  • 1-5 years' experience directly related to IT systems and data storage issues.
  • Prior System Engineer experience is preferred.
  • Must have strong background in supporting field sales personnel.
  • Thorough knowledge of storage industry and customer requirements.
  • Must have excellent understanding of HDS products and configuration requirements coupled with a full understanding of HDS sales support tools.
