What does a business development representative (BDR) do at Johnston Equipment? This role is a custom fit for the sales representative who identifies as a "hunter". This is an individual with a perceptive eye who has the ability and motivation to identify and scout out new potential new business and how to re-ignite dormant accounts. If you consider yourself to be proactive more than reactive when it comes to your sales style this job will be great for you. The BDR must be an inherently organized person to strategize effectively for follow-up with new and existing clients, scheduling meetings and cold calls with new and existing accounts and preparing and submitting sales activity reports, sales plans, and forecasts. The BDR must be someone motivated by winning new business, driven by the thrill of the chase and gratified by business expansion and meeting and exceeding targets. The BDR will work within their territory selling a subset of the Company's products and services. In addition to this the BDR is a provider of solutions. If you are someone who simply provides what a customer is asking this may not be the role for you, the BDR is someone who can look critically at a customer's needs and provide not only what the customer needs but also pre-emptively provide options they may not be aware of to optimize their productivity. The BDR has a secondary focus on penetrating certain assigned customers with significant growth opportunity, as assigned by management. The BDR also works in tandem with other sales representatives and territory account managers to ensure a seamless transition of customer responsibility at the appropriate time.
