What is the purpose of the role?
Following the development of the team we are seeking a Wastewater Network Engineer to join Thames Water. You will case manage and resolve reactive issues throughout the South East London Sewage Network. This role will require you to take personal ownership of customer concerns including responding to queries, complaints, and provide a scope of works to resolve issues with the support of senior technical staff. You will ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards through supervising and directing contractors to carry out repair or maintenance of the sewer network. The successful post holder will act as a local network expert for a specific geographical area within the region.
Working within the Operations area, this is a fantastic opportunity for a self-motivated individual who can make quick accurate assessments when unexpected issues occur. Often working alone, you will develop cost effective service recovery solutions and provide excellent customer service at all times. This is a great technical position that will quickly develop your technical knowledge. This Network Engineer position would lend itself to developing your career in other departments of Thames Water in the future.
The Engineer will:
Operate the waste network day to day, which includes sewer collapses, repeat blockage investigations, internal and external flooding, and pollution incidents.
Deal with sewer ownership disputes.
Complete ancillary inspections.
Take personal ownership of customer issues i.e. responding to queries and complaints and resolving issues.
Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards during repairs.
Act as local network expert, providing information for risk assessments and sharing information regarding network risks and other health and safety issues.
Attend meetings with external stakeholders to discuss planned works and how best Thames Water can support these.
Support Capital Delivery, Operations Project Work, Asset Management and Optimisation.
Assist contractors to ensure they are adhering to company policies and procedures.
Work in compliance with Thames Water procedures including operational standards, health and safety and Streetworks legislation.
You will be required to work on a six-week rotating pattern that includes working weekends one week in six and one week of 24hr standby.
Ideally you will have proven experience in an engineering or fault-finding role; although these technical skills can be taught to those interested in gaining the experience. As you will be spending time dealing with contractors and customers you need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will need to have a proactive attitude with good problem solving skills. You will need a flexible approach to working and the ability to prioritise intelligently should an event occur in the field. This position also involves working on standby every six weeks and it is essential you live within the geographical area in which you will be working. You must hold a full valid driving licence as consistent travel will be required.
This role is field based, covering the South East London area. We are offering a salary of up to £32,000, depending on skills and experience.
