What is the purpose of the role?
The purpose of this role will be to take responsibility for the overall operation of the Sludge Powered Generator and Thermal Hydrolysis Plant, working as part of a team of Process Controllers, to ensure the effective and continuous operation of the works (24/7). You will be responsible for responding to specific situations to ensure the relevant processes, many of which are complex, are brought under control or escalated to an event. You will ensure that services are delivered to time, cost and quality standards. In some cases, this may include planned and preventative maintenance of equipment to support the operation of the plant and where appropriate, using specialist electrical, mechanical or ICA skills.
This position will be based at either Beckton and/or Crossness Sewage Treatment Works which have recently undergone significant upgrades and improvements. This position will be initially based on standard days but after completion of training will provide ad-hoc and/or planned shift cover to either site so a high degree of flexibility will be required. Due to the complexity of the position and nature of training required, this role will provide you with natural succession planning for the Permanent Shift Specialist Process Controller Team at either Beckton or Crossness.
This role will involve:
Controlling the overall operation of the specific works processes, plant and equipment including fault finding (Incineration and Thermal Hydrolysis Process).
Monitoring, collating and reporting of data to ensure that statutory and regulatory compliance is met and the works meet regulatory quality standards and customer demand.
Operating and monitoring the processes from the Control room using SCADA and where necessary, go into the process area to carry out operations and inspections.
Undertaking safety and security checks and take personal responsibility for health and safety of self and colleagues.
The ideal candidate will have significant experience in a relevant industry and experience of managing or controlling the appropriate processes. Significant technical expertise is essential alongside the completion of NVQ level 2 units or equivalent experience in addition to Appointed Persons for HV (electrical work). Ideally, you will hold a C&G or HNC in a relevant technical subject. You will be fully competent at using IT systems including Microsoft Office and SCADA systems. Due to the nature of this role, you must be prepared to be trained in safety procedures including Confined Space Entry and have the ability to work unsupervised on 12-hour shifts, day or night.
This role is based out of Beckton or Crossness Sewage Treatment Works, East London. We are offering a salary from £30,855, depending on skills and experience. Our excellent salary package includes a competitive contributory pension and a wider benefits scheme which includes an annual pay review, child care vouchers, season ticket loans and loyalty awards for continuous service plus many more. Participation in a 24/7 Out of Hours Standby rota may be required after a suitable period of training and assessment, for which you will receive an additional payment. All necessary equipment such as vehicle and tools are provided.
