About the role

We are now inviting applications for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to provide engineering technical expertise and engineering governance to the Olympic Dam Surface operational areas including Processing, Smelter, Refinery and Infrastructure. Reporting to the Superintendent G&TS, this role will see you engaging with a wide range of stakeholders including Modifications and Small Projects, OD Projects, Engineering and the Maintenance and Production A&I teams. Furthermore, you will provide guidance, support and monitor engineering activities to ensure BHP Billiton standards are met and fit-for-purpose engineering standards are applied. Review, updating, validation and approval of technical documentation is also a key element of this role.

It is imperative that you ensure HSEC principles and behaviours are in alignment with Olympic Dam's commitment towards a zero harm workplace, demonstrating adherence to, and promotion of, safe working practices and procedures.

Please note this position is based at Olympic Dam, operating on a 5/2 roster arrangement, with residential or FIFO options available.

To succeed in this role you will be able to demonstrate significant experience in the mining and minerals processing industries and/or heavy industrial or major infrastructure across the areas of technical document review and approval, engineering management, engineering (HSE) design, collaboration with diverse teams, project management and statutory compliance. A minimum of a Bachelor Engineering Degree (Mechanical) and eligibility for membership of Engineers Australia is essential, and a CPEng with Engineers Australia is highly desirable.


Olympic Dam is located approximately 10 kilometres from Roxby Downs, a community of 3,500 people with an active and progressive community network. Roxby Downs is home to a variety of modern, well equipped housing, educational, health, sporting, leisure, shopping and cultural facilities.
