Mission - "Assess and communicate project risks based on a through knowledge of tender documents, coordinate overall estimates and proposals in conjunction with the SBU and Business Development Managers and present the above to the Proposal Review Committee as required."
Responsible for the daily functions of the estimating department implementing plans and policies to achieve division and corporate objectives. To deliver properly organized estimates, budget and schedules, and ensure the necessary systems and procedures are in place and implemented to manage Aecon's risk. Protect proprietary information (ie. clients, proposals, and strategy) from competitors and staff not essential to their specific work acquisition targets. Member of SBU's Management Committee.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate risk management on each project and ensure that the project team is working to minimize or eliminate that risk.
  • Provide management and leadership to the estimating department
  • Develop a strategic and competitive plan for each tender
  • Work in concert with the SBU and Business Development Managers
  • Responsible for the closing and submission of tenders
  • Review of estimates, general conditions and schedules with the lead estimator on each project
  • Ensure that Aecon's risk management checklist is followed
  • Responsible for the tracking and bidding of lump sum tenders and design-build projects
  • Ensure that the estimating success rate is met
  • Improve the quality of work in the estimating department, minimizing Aecon's exposure to risk
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants and subtrades
  • Develop the depth of estimating department/staff
  • Performance evaluations
  • Attend staff, operations and management meetings
  • Maintain historical data and keep/report monthly estimating statistics
  • Align record keeping of historical data with other regions so that experience and knowledge can be leveraged
  • Ensure IT systems are being fully utilized
  • Provide estimating leadership to business development opportunities
  • Maintain qualified to pass CSIS, RCMP, OPP or other personal security clearances as required.

Required Knowledge & Skills
  • Strong estimating background
  • Exceptional organizational and leadership skills
  • Good knowledge of sub trades
  • P. Eng / CET or equivalent
