Our client is specialises in the manufacturing of products for the construction market. With over 20 manufacturing sites across the UK, this multi-billion pound company have been investing heavily across both their production and quarry sites to help meet an ever increasing market demand for construction materials.
Their Whittlesey plant is the largest employer in the group, employing just over 250 people. Consisting of a large operational quarry and semi-automated production facility, this is the only site in the world can produce genuine London (Fletton) Bricks.
The two large kilns, each with 102 individual firing chambers, are capable of holding 62,000 bricks each. Once loaded, the chambers have to bricked up by hand and sealed with clay. The bricks would then stay in the chamber for two weeks, before the temporary wall is dismantled and the fired bricks removed. From there, the bricks must then be palletised ready for dispatch. Production is a continuous process, with bricks taking two weeks to fire. All the chambers are fuelled by Natural Gas.
With the construction industry booming, the demand for bricks has never been higher and as such the business are investing heavily in new and upgraded equipment, plus the training of all staff to help them better meet market demands.
