WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff is searching for a highly motivated and experienced substation design professional. The position will support WSP | Parson Brinckerhoff's growth ambitions in the power delivery market. The position will report to the US Power Division Director. The candidate would be a part of the Power division operating in simple and combined cycle plants, hydro power plants, transmission & distribution, combined heat and power, distributed generation and renewable energy.
The candidate will serve as a business development lead, a project manager, and supervising engineer on a variety of project types in the United States. The role will include managing internal staff resources in engineering and planning as well as managing sub-consultants. Duties will include supporting due diligence, and project studies; performing and/or managing engineering services that may include resource assessments, site layout and optimization, environmental, civil and electrical preliminary and detailed design; and managing project resources and budgets. Candidate should have experience managing large capital projects in power delivery, including experience in engineering team management and construction management and oversight.
Key duties and responsibilities include:
- Lead business development for substation design services in the Western US through participation in industry events and conferences, meeting prospective clients and developing service proposals
- Lead preliminary and detailed design engineering projects covering site civil, structural, and electrical disciplines
-Act as owner's engineer for electric utilities and independent power producers to develop preliminary engineering designs, specifications, and EPC bid materials for power delivery projects
- Provide support on independent engineering, due diligence and technical advisory services as needed
-Assist US Power Division Director with recruiting new staff, professional mentoring and training
- Develop and manage key client relationships that exploit the WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff global and multi-disciplinary service offerings
-Track and participate in external strategic initiatives that contribute to enhancing market presence and visibility among target clients. Represent WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff in external engagements by speaking at conferences, participating in technical working groups, and authoring white papers and thought pieces
-Coordinate with Marketing and Communications to develop and maintain external marketing materials and capability statements relevant to the practice
Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-Excellent business development, project management and project delivery capability
-Excellent existing network of IPP developer and utility client contacts
-Must be able to work both independently and as a member of a project and management team
-Responsible for effective time management and effort in accordance with business and client priorities
-Availability to travel 2 - 3 times per month for multiple days each time
-Strong analytical and problem solving skills
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:
-Ideal candidate has 15 years' experience in substation engineering.
-Proven track record of growing and expanding services in consulting engineering strongly preferred.
-Demonstrated experience with design and project management of medium and high voltage electrical substations.
-Past experience working for EPCs, project developers, consulting engineering services firms, or electric utilities required.
-Experience overseeing and managing project teams and staff desired.
EDUCATION & PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS:
-Bachelor of Science degree in electrical, or civil / structural engineering
-Licensed professional engineer strongly preferred
-Master of Science degree in engineering or Master of Business Administration (MBA), is desired but not required
-Project Management Professional a plus
