Department Overview:
The Technical Services Department is principally tasked to provide services to our internal and external customers that aid them in the proper selection, use, and application of our products. We serve the customer by providing technical support, training, design services, and field service/commissioning.

Job Summary:
The Vehicle Systems Applications Engineer/Technician performs a variety of design/drafting activities including vehicle site surveys of equipment, preparing/updating installation drawings for projects, preparing assembly/manufacturing drawings, establishing guidelines and procedures for CAD data management, and managing workload distribution within the CAD department. Other duties to be performed as assigned.

Primary Job Responsibilities:
  • Conduct site surveys of concept or in-service vehicles, developing vehicle fire suppression system design, including nozzle layout, tank and component location, and distribution hose and detection layout and/or trouble shooting existing design/installation issues.
  • Prepare dimensional drawings, installation drawings and more complex drawings.
  • Revise and update existing drawings reflecting design changes ensuring consistent documentation of the project. Review blueprints, plans, specifications and other customer documentation.
  • Develop installation drawings which meet and exceed the customer’s requirements. Implement these requirements on drawings sent to the customer.
  • Serve as an information source on planning and design of equipment installations.
  • Maintain notes, design calculations and other documentation (like drawings, bill of materials, list of design parameters, and /performance guarantees) for future reference.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Vehicle Fire Suppression listings and installation requirements.
  • Establish filing guidelines for drawings to maintain up-to-date drawings.
  • Provide phone support answering questions on the proper selection, use, and application of our products
  • Other duties as required relating to CAD database maintenance, etc.
  • Associate's degree or completion of a technical trade school in CAD, drafting or related field; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Part modeling and detailing experience using ProE Creo Parametric software (desired).
  • Experience using Autocad 3D design software (required).
  • Proficient in AutoCAD/ProE Creo Parametric software.
  • Excellent communications skills: interpersonal, listening, oral, and written.
  • Skilled in PC usage and associated software including Microsoft Office.
  • Able to generate layout drawings from sketches and specifications.
  • Familiar with design parameters related to Pre-engineered Vehicle Fire Protection Systems
  • Knowledgeable of standard drafting practices and procedures.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision, efficiently schedule and manage time.
