Assists with all aspects of company safety programs. With Regional Safety Manager, ensures that safety programs are correctly administered and communicated and that federal, provincial and local laws are met. Helps to ensure that project sites and offices provide a safe working environment for employees, customers and vendors. Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties1. Helps with implementation of safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, provincial and federal OHS rules and regulations and Company policies2. Conducts regular inspections/audits of job activities, work sites, equipment and processes to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards; documents unsafe conditions, safety hazards and health hazards, brings them to the attention of the Regional Safety Manager, and follows up to confirm that issues have been corrected3. Takes necessary steps to ensure that unsafe employee activities , procedures and practices are corrected4. Conducts investigations and root cause analysis of accidents and injuries through employee interviews, equipment inspections and site inspections, carefully reviewing the integrity of personal protective equipment, materials and job-site specific gear; prepares and files reports; recommends corrective action and follows up to ensure actions have been taken and remedies are in place to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future5. Develops project specific safety and emergency response plans. Prepares customer safety tracking reports6. Provides regular worksite and classroom safety training for all employees including new worker orientation, sub-contractor orientation and topics such as WHMIS, company policies and procedures, lockout, CN contractor orientations, respirator fit tests, hearing tests, etc.7. Helps administer disability management program and assists with WCB claims management8. Coordinates Material Safety Data Sheet library for controlled products, obtains updates and supplies field crews with updated materials9. Coordinates scheduling and administration of customer safety training and assists with providing the training 10. Develops, updates and tracks various safety related reports11. Ensures that all required records and reports are complete, accurate and correctly submitted to comply with all internal processes and comply with all local, provincial and federal regulations12. Ensures that the site has all the required safety, first aid and fire prevention equipment and that they are in good working conditionGeneral/Other Responsibilities and Duties:• Maintains safety files and records• Performs miscellaneous administrative and clerical tasks Job Qualifications: • Familiarity with safety policies and procedures in a construction environment• Ability to exercise good business judgment • Ability to multi-task and thrive in an environment where numerous tasks and projects are occurring simultaneously and to meet deadlines • Accurate record-keeping skills and detail orientation• Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to write clear reports• Good presentation skills and experience assisting with and/or providing safety training preferred• Strong interpersonal skills; ability to interact and with all levels of the company at field sites and offices, and effectively deal with vendors, customers and regulatory agenciesEducation, Training & Experience• A minimum of one (1) year recent related safety experience in the construction industry.• Grade 12 graduation plus completion of a recognized training program specializing in health and safety such as the Construction Safety Officer certificate.• Working knowledge of and experience with WCB rules, regulations and reporting processes and procedures• Valid and clean provincial class 5 driver's license• Current first aid certificateTalents & Abilities• Ability to use computerized office software including Microsoft Office products.• Effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills.• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with all levels both internally and externally.• Ability to multi-task, prioritize and organize work.• Ability to travel overnight to jobsites .
