About us:

As part of Amey`s Utilities and FM section under the contract for Ministry Of Justice Prisons, HMP Frankland require 2 Apprentice Gardener's to join an in-house maintenance team to assist in the carrying out of grounds maintenance work. The Apprentice Grounds Person will abide by the Health and Safety at Work Regulations in order to maintain a safe working environment at all times. The Apprentice Gardener will work towards a NVQ Level 2 in Grounds Maintenance at Houghall College.

What will this role involve?

  • To support the Grounds Team in maintaining prison owned grounds both internally and externally •
  • Ensure all areas of prison grounds are kept tidy, litter free and presentable at all times
  • Grass cutting - using ride on and push mowers
  • Planting flower beds and preparing beds for all seasons
  • Pruning hedges, shrubs and spraying weeds
  • Snow/ice clearing and salting hardstands and roads
  • Assist with maintaining equipment and informing supervisor of any defects or breakdown of equipment
  • Undertake training in other locations
  • Working towards a NVQ Level 2 in Grounds Maintenance at Houghall College

What are we looking for?

  • 2 GCSE’s (or equivalent) grades A* - C in Maths and English
  • Commitment to achieving a NVQ Level 2
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Applicants must be over 18
  • Excellent time keeping and strong work ethic
  • Driving licence would be advantageous
  • Candidates must be willing to undergo prison service vetting procedures and gain an Enhanced level 2 and CTC and must adhere to the establishments LSS local security Strategy.
