Our team of environment specialists offers clients expertise in air quality, impact analysis and permitting, environmental health and safety management consulting/due diligence, remediation consulting/engineering and construction/site restoration, specialty and emerging technologies, waste services and water and natural resources.

Job Summary
The AECOM Environment Business Line is seeking an energetic and innovative professional to manage a group of key client accounts Safety, Health, and Environment (SH&E) Programs. This person will work as a partner across all business lines with geography based SH&E and operations managers, internal client account and market sector leaders, and with the external client organization and railroad industry safety associations. The position will directly report to the Environment Railroad Market Sector Leader with functional reporting to the Environment Business Line SH&E Director. They will be considered the resident expert regarding safety, health, and the environment for railroad SH&E programs. The Client Account SH&E Program Manager may have or acquire direct reports based on size and geographic footprint of the railroad accounts. Project SH&E staff will report to local operations and functionally report to the Client Account SH&E Program Manager.

The role of Client Account SH&E Manager requires skills in procedure and system analyses to develop tools that support compliance with both the AECOM SH&E Safety For Life Program and the client's specific requirements. Promoting a positive safety culture, proactively identifying opportunities for improvement and demonstrating innovation are essential.

Core responsibilities include:
  • Developing tools, bridging documents and processes to support company and railroad client SH&E requirement compliance
  • Communicating with the client account team on compliance, initiatives, lessons learned, and other SH&E related news and needs
  • Identifying training needs, developing training materials, delivering training as needed, and verifying compliance
  • Performing a leadership role in client related incident reporting, case management and investigation
  • Verifying that internal incident process requirements are met and coordinating with AECOM geography SH&E managers
  • Overseeing the corrective action assignment and completion process
  • Providing SH&E performance reports to Client Account Teams and other stakeholders as requested
  • Conducting site visits, project safety reviews, and other field and desktop verification activities
  • Assessing continuous improvement needs, developing action plans, and monitoring implementation
  • Overseeing railroad training programs nationally, such as RWP Safety Training, E-Rail Safe, and other project specific training
Other duties may include pre-work hazard assessment and mitigation planning support; assessing subcontractor SH&E performance and qualifications; providing input on proposals and client questionnaires; and management of key performance indicator tracking, trending and analysis.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field
  • 8 years of experience directly managing SH&E program or components at a senior level
  • Knowledge of a working railroad environment and familiarity with railroad training programs and safety initiatives
  • Demonstrated knowledge of jurisdictional regulations (ex: US OSHA, US EPA, USACE, DOT, etc.), behavior based safety, and current best SH&E practices in major industries (ex: oil & gas, chemical -pharmaceutical, freight rail, power, etc.)
  • Communication skills, written and verbal, and training experience are critical. A relatively high level of analytical ability is required for solving difficult human, technical, or administrative challenges
  • Travel with overnight stays will be required and may account for as much as 50% of time
  • Automobile Insurance and valid license to drive a vehicle is a requirement for the position
  • Must have familiarity with and aptitude for using information technology (ex: databases, PowerPoint, excel, etc.)
  • Fitness for duty for this position includes the ability to visit various types of projects sites in North America where walking across uneven terrain, climbing ladders and scaffolding, entering confined spaces, wearing an air purifying respirator, working in industrial settings, and working in a range of climates may be required. Visiting other countries may be required
  • Due to the nature of the work, US citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in other countries that the position covers (where applicable) is preferred
  • 40 hour HAZWOPER training, 8 hr HAZWOPER supervisor training, and OSHA 10/30 training (500/501 train-the-trainer) is preferred
  • Advanced Degree in SH&E related field and/or professional certification/license in SH&E is preferred such as CIH, CSP, CHMM, and PE
  • Experience developing and/or managing a client specific SH&E Program is desired
