Job Summary
AECOM is seeking a high level industrial HVAC/R maintenance technician in Groton, CT! This is primarily a 1st shift position that supports a 24/7 operation; scheduled work hours may vary based on critical business demand.

This position provides an advanced level of expertise in performing preventive and corrective maintenance to a wide variety of industrial or commercial facility HVAC equipment.
  • Strong mechanical / electrical / refrigeration & air-conditioning skills are required, as well as the ability to work safely with 3-phase power up to and including 480V.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and diagnose electrical circuits ranging from 24V AC/DC and up.
  • Must be a self-motivated individual.
  • Your S1, S2, D1, and D2 licenses are valued assets!

The HVAC/R Technician IV must have the ability to identify and correct any safety-related issues and perform independent equipment evaluations to identify potential equipment failures. Provide instruction and assistance to other technicians as needed.

Essential Functions:
  • Operates, maintains, diagnoses, troubleshoots and repairs ventilation equipment, pumps, fans, chillers, rooftop AHU's, split systems, compressors, refrigeration, and other mechanical equipment as necessary.
  • Utilizes the building automation system to track building conditions and the operation of facilities equipment.
  • Utilizes strong mechanical and electrical skills in order to complete assignments.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on HVAC control and operating systems as scheduled from a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Responds and provides service and feedback to the customer on all work orders while assuring compliance to codes, regulations and industry standards.
  • Under general supervision, performs tasks that reflect substantial variety and complexity. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Recommends measures to improve maintenance methods and equipment performance.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists coworkers in solving work problems.
  • Understands company policies and enforces safety regulations.
  • Safely performs functions of the position including following proper safety guidelines such as job hazard analysis, lockout/tagout, and wearing PPE as required.
  • Operates various measuring, diagnostic and testing instruments to help provide energy efficiency solutions.
  • Maintains a strict schedule in order to be successful in the assignment.
  • Complies with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
  • Flexible in the day-to-day activities and scheduling for the benefit of the customer.
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager or Supervisor.


Minimum Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
  1. High school diploma or demonstrated equivalent.
  2. Five years of experience as an HVAC/R maintenance technician in an industrial environment, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.
  3. Connecticut S1, S2, D1, or D2 license.
Additional Information:
  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.

  • This position will require the ability to obtain a security access badge at our client's location.
  • This position may require various shifts, weekends, and alternative work schedules.
Physical Requirements:
  • Requires the ability to stand for prolonged periods and walk extensively throughout the facility during shift.
  • Requires the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat, twist, crawl, and climb repetitive during shift.
  • Requires the ability to regularly kneel, work in cramped or confined spaces, or assume uncomfortable or tiring body positions repetitive for shift.
  • Requires the ability to move in a 90-degree fashion on a repetitive basis for shift.
  • Requires the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis for shift.
  • Requires the ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladder, stepladders, stairs, or scaffolding at least 10 times during shift.
  • Requires the ability to regularly lift up to 100 lbs.
  • Requires the ability to work at an accelerated pace in emergency conditions, as needed.
  • Requires the use of a Company/Client approved utility knife.
  • Requires the ability to differentiate colors pertaining to wire color-coding.
  • Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movement.
  • Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.
Special Requirements:
  • Wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed.
  • Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Connecticut D1 or S1 license.
  2. EPA Universal certification.
  3. Experience with electrical high voltage (480 volt 3 phase).
  4. Experience with Centrifugal Chillers, Cooling Towers, Cabinet Coolers, Water Coolers, etc.
  5. Experience with Building Automation Systems (Honeywell and Siemens).
  6. Experience with DX Split Systems.
  7. Experience with Package Systems.
  8. Experience with Ultra Low Freezers.
  9. Experience with Simplex fire systems.
  10. Experience with a CMMS program and MS Office.
Other Attributes: • May be required to work overtime, variable shifts and 24-hour/7 days a week on-call as needed.
