Position Overview
Reporting to the Service Request Manager, the role of the Software Asset Manager is responsible for supporting the day-to-day Software Asset Management (SAM) activities required within the Interserve Shared Service and tasked to undertake governance, risk management, reporting and process assurance activities.

The Software Asset Manager will act as primary point of contact for all SAM matters within the Shared Service, and provide internal consultancy to stakeholders including Finance, Solutions Architecture, Bid and Deliveries teams, IT Operations and IT Strategic Procurement. In addition the Software Asset Manager will be expected to practice robust risk management and work with IT Governance functions to ensure SAM risks are identified, analysed, mitigated and escalated appropriately.

The Software Asset Manager will also be responsible for ensuring Interserve Shared Service realises value from its 3 rd party relationships, including the SAM Services Partner, LSP and other software resellers. They will also be responsible for defining and implementing internal compliance activities and reviews, and responding to and managing Vendor audits.

Governance & Assurance
  • Define and implement the ITSS SAM Strategy, covering policies, processes, partners, and toolsets, working in conjunction with other IT Service Management Teams and key stakeholders such as Finance, IT Strategic Procurement and IT Governance
  • Ensure all policies, processes and procedures are appropriately documented and communicated
  • Design and implement assurance activities to ensure toolsets, including the CMDB, Software Deployment tool, the DSL and the License Management tool are properly maintained and data is accurate
  • Design and implement assurance activities to ensure that entitlement data is comprehensive, accurate and up to date
  • Identify and implement appropriate control activities to ensure that ITSS is compliant with the T&Cs of its software assets
  • Proactively identify, define and implement Service Improvement Projects (SIPs) for SAM in conjunction with other IT teams
  • Plan and carry out stakeholder management activities, and be an effective advocate for SAM at all levels of the organisation
  • Liaising with the Finance and IT Governance teams, define and implement management and reporting to support the development of service charge models, depreciation schedules and maintenance of the asset register
  • Provide reporting and analysis to the Service Request Manager to support the preparation of Financial or budget reporting
  • Maximise the ROI of all software assets by managing the end to end software lifecycle, ensuring that the right products are purchased, deployed, re-harvested and retired
  • Work with the IT Procurement Team, IT Strategic Procurement, Resellers and the SAM Services provider to define processes to ensure all entitlement is captured and entered into the License Management Tool
  • Act as internal consultant to all stakeholders to provide support and advice regarding software purchases and the interpretation of license terms & conditions
  • Maintain a SAM Risk Register and be proactive in helping all stakeholders identify, analyse, mitigate and escalate software asset related risks
  • Define and implement internal audit and reconciliation strategies, respond to and manage external audits and work with 3 rd party SAM Services and resellers to ensure that Interserve is compliant with the T&Cs of its software assets
  • Define and implement a robust set of service reporting schedules and metrics including Reporting Review cycles
  • Deputise for the Service Request Manager as necessary at weekly and monthly departmental meetings
  • Support the Software Category Manager in negotiations with software vendors
  • Be responsible for ensuring SAM related contractual obligations are met, including annual true-ups
  • Adopts the ITSS Communication Principles and standards for all communications with those outside the Service Request department
  • Ensure adherence to all company and departmental process and procedures

What we are looking for
The Software Asset Manager is critical to the day-to-day operation of the service and is key to ensuring compliance and integrity of Interserve Shared Services' Software Licensing. The individual must have a risk focused, systematic approach to managing software assets, strong stakeholder management skills, act as a passionate advocate for SAM throughout the organisation and have a track record of delivering exceptional quality of service as well as exceptional customer service.

  • Strong understanding of major license models including Microsoft and IBM
  • Support for M&A activity and license assignments
  • Management of subscription licensing models including MSDN licensing
  • Ability to research, interpret and communicate product use rights and licensing terms & conditions
  • Use of License and Service Management toolsets eg Snow, System Center (SCCM) and LanDesk
  • Ability to act as SAM advocate and influencer at all levels of the IT Organisation, including at CIO level and in Senior IT Management forums
  • Experience responding to and managing software compliance reviews / audits by major vendors such as Microsoft and IBM
  • Experience defining and implementing SAM Strategies, Policies and Processes within a Shared Service environment
  • Experience managing SAAS license models including O365
  • Experience managing licensing in IAAS platforms such as Microsoft Azure and BT Cloud
  • Experience utilizing the Snow License Manager platform
