An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Consulting Technical Architect to work within Central Government on a contract basis. The position will be based in London for an initial 6 month contract offering up to a maximum of £700 per day LTD.

Due to the nature of the client, candidates with a current SC Clearance are highly desirable.

Key Tasks:

Joining a small team of 4 in providing consulting services to Government departments.

Looking for a Senior Tech Architect with a consultative approach.

Two parts to the role: 1. Give guidance how to apply central standards, how to do things way are suggested (i.e user needs / cloud first). Following Technical guidelines published by GDS. 2. Working with spend control team who assess requests for approval to spend on technology. Provide advice on products that are being bought in. Work with project teams to steer them in correct directions. Sites all over UK, so travelling to project teams at times will be required.

Shadowing will take place in weeks 3 & 4. By weeks 5 & 6, we expect the architect to be able to make inroads into the backlog.

As a GDS Consulting Technical architect, share the responsibility for the digital transformation of government and push forward the GDS technology vision to wider government, and be able to communicate this to all levels of responsibility, including chief technology officers and chief executive officers in government.

When working closely with departments and agencies, share technology best practice and explain cross government architecture patterns.

Will advise multidisciplinary teams on core technology to help them deliver simple, safe and easy to use digital systems that meet user needs and will work on multiple projects at the same time while working amongst an excellent peer group and travelling around the UK.

Essential Experience:

Exp of Agile environment.

Exp managing people.

Experience in selecting technologies and establishing roadmaps.

Generic background across Tech Architecture - would suit Senior Tech Architects.

Experience of influencing senior management and communicating with both technical and non-technical audiences

Awareness and understanding of a range of tech stacks and the ability to take a balanced approach to technology selection

Experience migrating legacy technology, eg. applying data migration strategies, migrating hosting to a cloud service provider, or incrementally replacing a legacy system.

Desirable: Some software development experience during career would be highly advantageous.
