Software Development Manager.|
Our client is a successful international consultancy, their Aerospace, Defence, Security and Technology practice has been experiencing a period of sustained growth across various market sectors. They specialise in the delivery of information system solutions that utilise a wide range of technologies. Their drive is to deliver innovative, high-quality solutions to their clients that meet their operational needs and align with their corporate culture.
Due to expansion they require a Software Development Manager who will work on a broad range of projects based predominately in the UK, but with flexibility to work abroad if needed (occasional).
The Responsibilities - Software Development Manager.
Alongside the project manager, support technical managers in identifying new business opportunities and in marketing capabilities and services among existing and prospective clients
Assist in establishing the team's development platform, documenting and championing associated processes.
Conduct client technical requirements analysis in support of Technical Architect.
Develop and evaluate quality assurance plans and criteria for assigned projects.
Work with the Project Manager in the preparation of project work plans, scopes, schedules and budgets from a technical perspective.
Manage the implementation of Software Solutions through the Software Development Life Cycle and ensures processes and procedures are met in accordance to adopted best practices.
Ensure project deadlines are met by managing technical schedules based on scope, feature requirements, and technical complexity.
Review overall software design with Technical Architect or Lead Software Engineer.
Analyse technical problems and devise new approaches and alternative solutions.
May act as a technical lead with development responsibilities, in the absence of a technical architect.
Maintain continued knowledge of technology developments in the field and application of software development methodologies.
The Requirements - Software Development Manager.
A degree qualified (min 2:1) or equivalent (Computer Science or Mathematics preferred);
Must possess excellent interpersonal, technical writing, and communications skills.
Experienced in the preparation of project work plans, scopes, schedules and budgets from a technical perspective.
Demonstrable experience in the implementation (or management) of Software Solutions through the Software Development Life Cycle ensuring processes and procedures are met in accordance to adopted best practices.
Proficient in the delivery of project deadlines, managing technical schedules based on scope, feature requirements, and technical complexity.
Experienced in the review of software design specifications.
Able to analyse technical problems, establish client technical requirements and devise new approaches and alternative solutions.
The following skills are also seen as desirable:
Demonstrable experience in overseeing the design and development of applications and coordinating the work of multiple programmers.
Extensive experience with current object-oriented programming techniques and web software development tools.
Demonstrable experience with database design and/or administration of enterprise relational database management systems.
Experience and knowledge of different architectural patterns;
Experience of C++, PHP, Android or iOS;
Exposure to Geospatial technology and platforms;
Enthusiasm for emerging technologies and willingness to embrace new skills.
Experience and exposure to software patterns and process (ideally TickITplus, ITIL, IEEE, or SCRUM).
Certified SCRUM Master.
Ability to work effectively individually and as part of a team;
A strong work ethic and level of professionalism;
Solid problem solving, analytical and creative thinking ability;
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, and with colleagues and clients;
Able to work with technical software development staff located in multiple offices within the company.
Able to supervise and review the work of others
Comfortable interfacing with senior technical professionals, technical managers, and administrative staff and managers as necessary.
Able to represent the organization in conferences with clients and sub consultants.
Able and willing to deal with interruptions in current work in progress to handle priority jobs.
Ability to plan, prioritize and review project plans and documents, evaluate alternatives, and devise appropriate solutions
Salary up to £53K plus large company benefits.
