Our client is a multi-award winning, family run Waste Management company with a unique outlook and vision for the future, offering a comprehensive waste management service across the South East area. As one of the leading Waste Management providers in the South East, our client is committed to providing an excellent service to their clients.

They are looking for an experienced Safety, Health & Environment Manager to drive our Health, Safety and Environmental performance forward within a highly driven and successful multi-site organisation. This is a fantastic opportunity to manage, refine and develop their systems embedding health, safety and environmental best practice and systems during an exciting time of growth. You must be comfortable in operating in a standalone role and relish the chance the flourish in a high performing and forward thinking environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Actively monitor, maintain and manage risk assessments and SSOW

• Regularly review the processes and procedures associated with hazardous waste

• Ensure health, safety and environmental standards comply with UK legislation and company policy

• Proactively manage systems and procedures to ensure continued compliance with ISO 14001, ISO 9001, CHAS and OHSAS standards

• Carry out regular site inspections and audits to assess compliance with health, safety & environmental company standards and make recommendations for improvement

• Produce and deliver staff inductions

• Ensure employees are trained to company standards and that all training is recorded in line with company procedure

• Create tool box talks and presentations for use across the workforce

• Assist with investigations of accidents, ensuring compliance with reporting procedures

• Accountability for general fire safety responsibilities

• Suggest and set key performance indicators

• Produce reports on Safety, Health & Environment performance data and produce a weekly trend analysis in line with those KPIs

• Develop and implement environmental strategies, policies and action plans

• Promote and raise awareness of environmental issues and legislation across the Company

• Set organisational sustainability targets and oversee delivery

• Manage the company sustainability and corporate responsibility work.

• Ensure records are kept up to date

Skills and Qualifications:

• * A recognised qualification in health & safety NEBOSH/IOSH

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to tailor your approach to suit all areas of the business

• An ability to understand and interpret the requirements of UK health, safety and environmental legislation

• Ability to build relationships and influence people at all levels

• Self-motivated and able to work autonomously, but collaboratively

• Experienced in all areas

• Experience in the waste industry a bonus, but not a must
