What is the purpose of the role?
To manage leakage in a specific region/Zone and ensure Thames Water achieves its challenging OFWAT ODI targets year on year. To ensure that leakage in your appointed region is optimised to the maximum degree by delivering an efficient leakage strategy and maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders at all times, such as Field Services, Capital Delivery, Control as well as other departments within Asset Management. The work varies between reactive troubleshooting and planned work, both which involve engaging and liaising with different departments, prioritising workloads and minimising the impact of reactive issues while supporting delivery of medium to long term strategies to meet year end leakage targets.
This role encompasses all aspects of leakage optimisation and control within the specified region. As the Leakage Engineer you will monitor and oversee a designated region, allowing you to significantly improve the performance in your area. You will directly review methods to optimise and improve leakage detection and control whilst building an understanding of network configuration. This will influence operating strategies to develop and promote fresh ideas and strategies in your area.
This role will involve:
Liaising with field operation teams to prioritise detection targeting and mains repair for leakage survey work on transfer and principle mains. The regular reviewing of Zonal Metering and liaising with the zonal and district metering team. Ensuring that District Metered Area (DMA) targeting and pack quality are fit for purpose through the active management of the Leakage Optimisation Analyst.
DMA Campaign Planning: Actively reviewing District Metered Areas (DMAs) water balances & target step testing resources and oversee process compliance - PZT, Step Test, LCA, UFW - approve and sign off claims to reduce leakage.
Liaising with key stakeholders impacting on leakage delivery in each area, such as London Water Control pumping strategy compliance, Eight20 leakage projects, Regulatory metering and commercial metering teams.
Completing desk top exercises to improve DMA operability and NRW. Supporting the team in delivering operability processes/policy changes. Prioritising problem DMAs and deliver action plans to resolve.
Routinely reviewing and optimising performance and operability of our pressure reducing valves (PRVs) and PMAs.
Prioritising DMA validation work stream to ensure fit for leakage targeting.
Identifying and raising any risks to leakage delivery and potential future investment opportunities through Risk Matrix/APS. Mentoring the Leakage Optimisation Analyst to develop succession plan.
Preparing weekly leakage presentations for management (including weekly predictions).
Deputising for the Leakage Optimisation Manager on occasion, attend meetings etc. and support manager in delivering the company leakage action plan. An out of hours standby rota (One in Four) might apply.
We are seeking an expert in Water Networks in order to make an impact within the team and develop the ideas and processes. You must demonstrate excellent analytical skills and a good working knowledge of Excel. Experience with leakage, hydraulics or modelling would be an advantage. To be successful in the post strong communication skills are needed as well as confidence when presenting recommendations. We are looking for someone who is degree educated or equivalent in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science or a similar subject. Please note, a valid driving licence is essential for this role.
This role is based at Ashford Common Water Treatment Works, with travel to Stroud Green (North London). We are offering a salary of between £32,725 and £40,000, depending on skills and experience.
