Job Summary
The Burnaby office is expanding its rail group and requires an experienced Civil Engineer/CAD/Civil 3D designer to work in the Transportation Department to primarily work on track design projects. Major responsibilities will also include mentoring junior staff in Civil 3D and CAD design tools to provide road and rail designs (concept level to detailed design).

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Organize the work and assist in project delivery
  • Gather data for proposals to clients
  • Lead the Burnaby technical rail design for projects; this includes mentoring junior staff in AutoCAD and Civil 3D
  • Assist the Manager and Senior Project Managers by carrying out project management activities such as project team co-ordination, schedule monitoring, budget compliance and invoice preparation
  • Prepare documentation related to current or prospective projects, including correspondence, reports, proposals, expressions of interest, specifications and meeting minutes
  • Provide road and rail preliminary and detailed design services, including work on: rural highways; rural roadways; profiles, cross sections, and estimating quantities
  • Provide evaluations of road rail intersections in accordance with the new Canadian regulations and standards
  • Communicate and work with other project team members to provide quality service to clients to ensure that all documentation conforms to client/company standards
  • Promote the company to current and potential clients in order to generate future business
  • Liaise with and assist other AECOM departments and offices in the provision of facility design services to clients
  • Check drawings and quantities
  • Perform construction inspection/administration as needed
  • Be physically able to travel internationally and conduct reconnaissance in remote areas
  • Planning and participation in site reconnaissance
  • Research design specifications/regulations and ensuring they are met
  • Research alternative designs
  • Assist other departments in design work as required from time to time; Examples: Water and Environment

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
  • 10 years' combined experience in design of road (minimum 5 years) and rail (minimum 5 years) construction projects
  • 5 years of experience in leading or taking part in site reconnaissance for route location studies at concept, PFS and FS levels of study
  • Must be a NA.
  • 10 years' experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D as well as experience with 2015 version
  • AutoTurn v9.1
  • Experienced with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications
  • 15 years of relevant experience
  • Civil 3D - high level of demonstrated experience in rail and road alignment design
  • Competency in design for drainage paths and other civil infrastructure areas
  • International experience and Project Management skills
