Costing Engineer

£40-45k p/a + very competitive package

The Company

My Client is the world leader in the design and manufacture of mechanical components for niche processing industries. The company has seen significant sustained revenue growth with output rising from £31million to circa £110million within the last 8 years. My client currently has over 500 employees throughout Europe and North Africa with over 400 based locally.

My client is now looking to grow their traditional business base further through the implementation of Brownfield strategy team who will be tasked with visiting and auditing the existing process within selected customer sites throughout the region with a view to providing innovative engineering solutions in order to resolve any existing issues and bottlenecks in the process. The successful candidate will be joining a newly formed Brownfield optimisation team and will be responsible for preparing quick turnaround budgetary and fixed price cost estimates/prices for a wide variety of engineering solutions.

The Role

Accountable for the design of systems projects. This includes the overall design, selection of components, drawings and compliance with industry and project specific standards/specifications during the project life cycle.

The Costing Engineer/Estimator will be required to;

* Supporting the Brownfield Optimisation team in developing commercial proposals following audits at selected customers sites throughout Europe and North Africa
* Experience in costing and pricing, contract administrations and client communications
* Preparation and quick turnaround of budgetary estimates for the proposed solution utilising existing equipment prices and estimating metrics for civil, groundwork, steel structure and installation as required
* Review the revised flow sheet and assist in the preparation of the scope of work and costing requirements for the identified solutions
* Preparation of customer tenders based on identified solutions and ensure clearance in accordance with the companies commercial practises
* Deal with all aspects of client liaison & design including preparations of quotations for a range of contract values including site inspections and meetings where required to deliver in the most balanced commercially advantageous/reliable solution
* Liaison with third party partners/subcontractors/material providers to allow the preparation of budgetary and firm price proposals
* Understand and provide an assessment of the potential project risks
* To coordinate the bid review process by liaising with other functions within the business to ensure there is a clear understanding of the scope of supply, accurate estimation of costs, achievable lead times and an assessment of the overall commercial risk
* Monitor the profitability of significant contracts from bid approval through to delivery
* Presenting to Senior Management in a concise manner the build up of the prime cost and estimating methodology used
* Preparing cost profiles to enable staged payments
* Support the project execution team in understand the details of the agreed solution and the associated costs and liaise with third party suppliers as required in order to successfully launch the project into the business
* Cost Analysis for ongoing project work and conducting lesson learnt following the completion of projects
* Create and maintain a database of costing metrics and validate this data in order to improve the estimating process of future projects

Candidate requirements:

* Detailed understanding of estimating techniques and practises within an industrial/construction industry
* Effective communication skills applicable for operating in the international arena
* Strong motivational skills
* Clear understanding of the selling process for technically based capital goods
* Have good leadership aptitude with well developed interpersonal skills
* Innovative and Adaptable
* Ability to work under pressure and achieve tight deadlines
* Positive attitude and approach
* Ability to understand and estimate from detailed drawings and process flow sheets
* Awareness and knowledge of SAP, Aggflow, JK Simnent (preferred)
* Experience in detailing and understanding process flow sheets, equipment lists and plant solutions
* Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Programmes (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
