As a Midlands based Prestige Sports car manufacturer - We are searching for a Vehicle Safety Test Engineer to deliver a range of safety related testing activities, from component testing right through to full vehicle crash testing.|
The Safety Test Engineer will be responsible for planning and preparation of tests and rigs, ensuring the safe and accurate conduct of tests at our Gaydon premises and outside at external test sites, and reporting results.
Key Responsibilities & Tasks
Responsible for correct and complete execution of testing on behalf of the Vehicle Safety Team. Testing may be carried out both within our facility and at external test houses located in the UK and overseas. Testing will include but is not limited to:
Full vehicle crash tests
Sub system tests (sled tests, restraint tests, pedestrian impact tests, body structure tests)
Component tests (e.g. airbags)
Responsible for test planning and preparation support, including supporting delivery and sign off of test material and working with customers to define the test specification.
Compile test specifications based on information from engineers and from own review of regulatory or internal requirements.
Design and oversee the manufacture of test fixtures as appropriate for component and subsystem tests. Liaise with the workshop to manufacture test fixtures and rigs.
Prepare test documentation in cooperation with internal customers (booking forms, instrumentation specifications, purchase orders, test result feedback and reporting)
Support management of the crash test fleet including vehicle storage/scrappage and the handling of tested materials. Tracking tested cars and parts and driving the process to deal with them.
The post holder will undertake other duties as may be required to achieve the Company's objectives, commensurate with the grading of the post.
Qualifications & Experience
Mechanical Engineering degree (or equivalent) minimum 2.1
HND/C Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
Knowledge of Safety related regulations and test procedures
Full vehicle Crash testing experience
Safety related subsystem test experience
Restraints systems test experience
Test data analysis and manipulation/post-processing
Intuitive knowledge of fundamental Mechanical engineering theory
Good IT skills and working knowledge of MS word/Excel etc
Good problem solving abilities
Full UK Drivers Licence and flexibility to travel in UK and overseas
Self-starting and self-motivated
Excellent organisational skills
Able to learn quickly and integrate into a successful and dynamic team
Excellent Attention to detail
Ability to work under pressure
