Responsibilities for this Position:

GDMS has an immediate opening for an experienced Senior Staff Computer-aided Design (CAD) Software Engineer to join our team. The position provides an opportunity to develop the cutting-edge technology that supports our nation's fundamental defense services. GDMS employees work closely with esteemed clients to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions. The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams to design, develop and manage CAD solutions for GDMS.

The Senior Staff CAD Software Engineer will possess a thorough understanding of the design and documentation requirements for Printed Circuit Boards. The qualified candidate must possess technical experience generating designs for digital signal and high speed digital signal processing, hi-frequency radio frequency, Double Data Rate (DDR) 2, 3 amd 4 memory, and high current applications. In addition, the candidate must have experience designing for high vibration and high-G environments and work closely with electrical, mechanical and manufacturing engineers to ensure concurrence with Design for Manufacturablity and Design for Test practices and standards.

Management responsibilities include leading a team and coordinating with programs at multiple locations to appropriately schedule and staff PCB layout resources from our organization. Additional tool support is required to ensure symbol and cell consistency within the PCB tool library and proper interfaces are supported to external services and tools.

Candidate must have extensive experience with:
  • Multi-layer PCBs up to 20 layers. Designs beyond 20 layers are a plus
  • PCB via technology that includes through hole, blind, buried, stacked and microvia
  • PCB design and fabrication details
  • Working in an Integrated Product Team environment
  • Mentor Graphics Board Station, Expedition and VX tools
  • Troubleshooting design data and configuration problems with outside vendors
  • Multi-tasking and successfully executing numerous jobs simultaneously

Additional Responsibilities
  • Exercise creative thinking and ideation to advance our business performance.
  • Deliver innovative, flexible, integrated solutions to meet changing business needs.
  • Mentor and train less experienced engineers and designers on PCB layout best practices and tool capabilites
  • Support and engage in programs, projects and practices behind the General Dynamics Mission Systems culture and strategy, and comply with all policies and procedures.
  • Follow industry and department trends and developments to ensure General Dynamics Mission Systems services are consistent with, and/or superior to, industry best practice
  • Participates in the tactical planning for completion of identified project segment
  • Makes recommendations and coordinates and identifies resources required to meet defined project requirements
  • Leads small continuous process improvement efforts
  • Provide support to GDC4S proposal efforts as requested
  • Participates in and provides reasoned input to technical discussions related to identification of problems/issues in technical tasks and/or project assignments

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in a Technology or Engineering support discipline or equivalent experience is required. In addition, a minimum of 10 years of progressively more responsible related R&D engineering support experience is required.

Department of Defense Secret security clearance is preferred at time of hire. Candidates must be able to obtain a Secret clearance within a reasonable amount of time from date of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
