General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Tool Designer to join our Manufacturing team. The position provides an opportunity to develop and advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's fundamental defense services. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed clients to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions. The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams to design and produce the state-of-the-art products that support General Dynamics Mission Systems and our clients. Tool Designers on our Manufacturing team develop, implement and maintain the methods, operation sequences and processes used in General Dynamics Mission Systems production. This involves the fabrication of parts, components, sub assemblies and final assemblies. The employee is also responsible for estimating manufacturing costs, determining project time standards, and recommending the tools and processes that accompany new and existing product lines. Additionally, the selected candidate will provide guidance to fellow engineers, helping them to enhance organizational design concepts and manufacturing techniques.
Designs manufacturing tools, fixture and jigs as required to ensure products designs with tight tolerances can be repeatedly manufactured. Works with manufacturing engineering and design engineering to create tool designs that include error proofing and are easily maintained. Studies parts and/or assembly specifications, engineering designs and blueprints, tool orders requests and manufacturing data to ensure tool design provides the desired results. Selects tool, fixture and jig materials with respect to material characteristics, dimensional tolerances, service requirements and manufacturability.
Applicants selected may be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
The Tool Designer position requires a bachelors degree in a related specialized area or the equivalent, with a minimum of two to five years of related experience or a master's degree and zero to two years of related experience.
Must have experience using computer-aided design software; Solid Works. Must have the ability to use spreadsheets and/or project management software to maintain tooling schedule and do tooling or fixtures.
