The Program
Here is your opportunity to work on the first ever high-speed rail program in the U.S. while growing your career on a groundbreaking project. The California High-Speed Rail program will connect the mega-regions of the state, contribute to economic development and a cleaner environment, create jobs and preserve agricultural and protected lands. By 2029, the system will run from San Francisco to the Los Angeles basin in under three hours at speeds of more than 200 miles per hour. The system will also extend to Sacramento and San Diego, totaling 800 miles with up to 24 stations.

The Role
The California High-Speed Rail Authority has awarded WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff the Program Management role within the Rail Delivery Partner (RDP) program delivery team. As a result we have an immediate opportunity for an Amazon Web Services (AWS) Specialist. The role will assist with AWS design, configuration, and maintenance of a Microsoft Windows environment on the program, also assistance with our internal network which includes a hybrid Microsoft Windows environment where AWS and on-premise workloads are utilized and updated. The role will utilize effective communication, apply a have broad understanding of AWS cloud services and on-premise technologies, train co-workers where needed. Some travel to other Program offices, including Sacramento will be required.

Job Requirements
The Requirements
The principal requirements include:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • At least ten years enterprise IT application experience, DevOps engineering, systems administration, or systems architecture
  • The ability to research, evaluate and act on a wide variety of technical situations, and the ability to use graphical and text based documentation effectively and efficiently
  • Familiarity with EC2, S3, RDS, Cloud Formation, Cloud Former, VPC, Auto Scaling, Elastic Load Balancing, Route 53, Flow Logs, Security Groups, DR, Cloud Watch, etc., in regards to AWS
  • Familiarity with Cisco Nexus Networking, 3PAR, Cisco UCS, VMware, VMware Horizon View, Active Directory, Firewall, DNS, PowerShell, Automation (Chef and/or Puppet), IIS, VMware Backup Technologies, Load Balancing, Web Application Firewall (WAF), Microsoft Windows Server
  • Experience provisioning, operating, and maintaining systems running on AWS and on-premise
  • Experience working in a hosting environment and an understanding of infrastructure and security requirements, such as PII, FISMA, etc.
  • Thorough understanding of infrastructure (firewalls, load balancers, networking, storage, monitoring, security etc.)
  • Practical experience with AWS and a strong understanding of AWS capabilities and limitations
  • Practical experience in a production environment with automation tools such as Chef or Puppet in either on premise or cloud infrastructure
  • Practical experience in a production environment of with VMware technologies
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills and team player characteristics
  • Experience with web services deployment experience, cloud computing, web site/services operations, management, and security
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, work under pressure, and work well with a diverse workgroup and in a collaborative environment
  • The ability to work in the United States immediately is required, local candidates preferred EOE / Veteran / Disability / Gender (M-F) / Gender Identity / Sexual Orientation
