Job Profile: We have an urgent requirement for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to provide Mechanical engineering for Global Combat Ship (GCS) Export with a focus on Power and Propulsion for the German MKS180|
Able to perform robust analysis using recognised analytical tools and to make sound judgements based on experience.
Has sufficient breadth of knowledge of warship design and the sound judgement needed to be able make correct trade-off decisions
Knowledge and experience in use of ship design processes and systems to LCM guidelines. Knowledge and experience of multiple aspects with respect to marine engineering
Technical knowledge and problem solving
Networking and communication skills at levels relevant to stakeholders of the role. Effective team working as part of the GCS Export team, adopting practices that support a consistent cross-discipline and cross-bid approach, and supporting the Head of Engineering in pan-GCS Export matters such as estimating, resourcing, governance/assurance and planning
Engineering in Naval Ships
Engineering design and design analysis work
Through life engineering d. Ship build engineering methodologies
Naval Ships Engineering Product Lifecycle
Essential: a. Incorporated Engineer, or demonstrably working towards this;
Degree qualified in an engineering discipline relevant to the design and production of complex naval warships
Associate Member of a Professional Institution relevant to discipline.
Full Member of a Professional Institution relevant to discipline
Contribute to engineering processes and procedures relevant to discipline.
Carry out complex technical analyses and investigations, evaluate technical options, make recommendations, support engineering capability development
Prepare engineering deliverables in line with requirements and technical standards, and carry out design appraisals in assigned areas.
Act as the main point of contact with customers and/or suppliers in assigned areas, to establish priorities and to resolve complex issues.
Support the preparation of high quality bids in area(s) of expertise
Engineering design and analysis relevant to assigned scope to support overall ship design
Support the application of Lifecycle Management as tailored within Naval Ships
Staff management (where post has direct reports)
Support Engineering contribution to commercial management including development and management of contracts
Support Engineering contribution to project management including schedule and risk management
Support governance of Product Safety, Product Environment, Quality and Legal and Regulatory
