Due to the expansion of business within the Ricardo Driveline & Transmissions Development group we are actively seeking up to 35 Design engineers to work on Transmission focused projects for 12 month fixed-term contracts.. Engineers have the choice of working from one of three sites:
- Shoreham Technical Centre, Shoreham-by-Sea BN43 5FG
- Midlands Technical Centre, Leamington Spa, CV31 1FQ
- Cambridge Technical Centre, Cambridge, CB4 0WH
A Transmission Design Engineer is required to strengthen the current team, working as part of the transmission Engineering team on a varied range of projects, from motorcycles to wind turbines.
Work would include;
- Design / specification and sign off of transmission and driveline systems
- Testing and development of prototype systems through to production
- Interaction with customers, potential customers and suppliers
The successful applicant would be responsible for creation, checking and approval of detailed drawings, design concepts and technical reports. Have a good understanding of the principles of interfacing hydraulic or electro-mechanical systems as well as the control systems that govern them. They would also understand and influence the transmission interface interactions with the rest of the system in terms of NVH and dynamic effects.
Significant proven ability of one or more of Catia, ProE and UG would be desirable, as would proven ability of carrying out design calculations by hand, or using software tools such as Pro Mechanica for FEA work, or other packages for gear calculations / bearing life / shaft stress calculations. Demonstrable leadership and mentoring capabilities as well as total personal accountability are also desirable.
Flexibility in applying Engineering knowledge would be a key advantage, allowing not only core transmission work to be undertaken, but also to be capable of carrying out Engine and vehicle Engineering work. Additionally being able to apply Engineering capabilities to a wide range of new and unpredictable contexts would be required.
Degree qualified in an Engineering discipline, the successful applicant would have typically gained a significant number of year’s relevant professional knowledge and would normally be a qualified member of a relevant professional body.
