About the Business Line
Our team of environment specialists offers clients expertise in air quality, impact analysis and permitting, environmental health and safety management consulting/due diligence, remediation consulting/engineering and construction/site restoration, specialty and emerging technologies, waste services and water and natural resources.

Job Summary
The Environmental Business Line of AECOM is actively seeking an experienced and hard-working Hazardous Waste (HW) Management Technician to support regulatory compliance and safety of the HW Program at Fort Belvoir. The appropriately qualified applicant will demonstrate experience and working knowledge of HW management and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Inspection of HW satellite accumulation points and <90>
  • Managing a HW storage facility
  • Scheduling and assisting with HW turn-ins, pick-ups, and documentation
  • Assisting with packaging and storage of HW and HazMat
  • Completing and maintaining facility inspection logs
  • Preparing for visits from State HW inspectors
  • Preparing HW (and non-hazardous solid waste) for disposal, preparing waste profiles, bills of lading, shipping/tracking paperwork, repacking/over-packing, and labeling as necessary
  • Transporting HW from temporary storage units within the installation
  • Coordinating with HW disposal agents to ensure transportation and disposal maintains compliance
  • Maintaining cradle to grave records of waste transported and disposed off site
  • Maintaining inventories of HW received and verify contents against required documentation
  • Verifying personnel training requirements are met prior to receiving or managing HW
  • Maintaining digital records (database) of HW documents, personnel and organization records
  • Consolidating compatible waste streams to optimize utilization of container capacity
  • Developing and submitting equipment maintenance / repair requests
  • Maintaining cleanliness of the HW facilities
  • Assisting with spill response
  • Reviewing manifests prior to Government signature and maintaining manifest records/files

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelors degree in Science or related field
  • 2 years of experience in hazardous waste handling, storage, packaging for shipment, and management activities
  • 2 years of experience preparing hazardous waste turn-in, shipping, and tracking documents; as well as container labeling.
  • Must have strong computer skills and capability to prepare and file multiple electronic documents, enter and manage data in databases, and maintain accurate files.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of safety procedures for proper waste handling
  • Must have working knowledge of OSHA and State and Federal Hazardous Waste regulations.
  • Strong work ethic and professional demeanor
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Must have good oral communication, written communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Must be a US Citizen capable of passing a National Agency Check, which will be required to gain access to Government IT Systems

Preferred Qualifications
  • Preferable to have initial 40-hour HAZWOPER certification and current annual 8-hour refresher training
  • Preferable to possess certifications required under Department of Transportation (DOT) HM 181, HM 215a, and HM 126f
  • Preferable to have military experience and familiarity with relevant military facilities and organizations
  • Preferable to have a current National Agency Check (NAC) and eligibility to obtain Government IT system access
