A Sheetmetal worker is required to interpret construction drawings with basic mathematic ability. Job tasks include layout, fabrication, assembly, and installation of all light gage metalwork which includes air-conditioned ductwork, lockers, cabinets, prefabricated bulkheads, doors, furniture and formica. Perform joiner work, fabricate nonstructural bulkhead doors and stainless steel trim. Work assignments will be accomplished using company drawings, test documents, technical manuals, shipyard procedures and shop machinery. Work conditions may include entry in restricted/confined spaces.|
High school diploma/GED preferred. Additional preference given for Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs. Individuals who have completed the Shipbuilding/Marine Advanced Manufacturing Institute (SAMI) program are highly desired. Semi-Skilled/Skilled Positions: 2+ years of previous sheetmetal experience is required:Previous experience working in the construction industry or a manufacturing environment is desired. Previous metal fabrication experience is desired. Military/Navy experience preferred. Previous military shipbuilding, automotive/auto body or HVAC experience is preferred.
Applicant must apply for a DoD security clearance as a condition of employment. Must possess basic mathematical, communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to interpret shipyard procedures, blue print drawings, technical manuals, test documents and diagrams desired. Must be able to pay attention to detail and work with close/tight tolerances. Must be able to work all shifts, at heights, confined spaces and extreme temperature conditions as required. Must be able to work comfortably with measuring devices. Applicant will be required to work in a collaborative and team environment and meet organizational goals. Individuals are required to possess their own basic hand tools.
