A Physician Assistant at Electric Boat conducts the following activities: - Performs triage and first aid to employees or persons who become ill or injured at work - Completes physical examinations for annual requirements as well as periodic surveillance examinations - Medical treatments including suturing lacerations, obtaining x-rays and laboratory tests - Reviews restrictions on those returning to work and assists in the accommodations needed   - Liaisons with the Employee Assistance Program, Benefits office, Workers' Compensation and local physicians - Writing and adhering to various department instructions and clinical protocols - Documents within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR):  Occupational/Non-Occupational, OSHA mandated examinations, Radiation Health, Workers' Compensation, and wellness programs   - Provides review of clinical findings - Prescribes medicines - Appropriately refers illnesses or urgent/emergent cases to Medical Director or his designated coverage - Works with Audiology, Industrial Hygiene, Safety and Toxicology to recognize environmental factors that may cause sickness, impaired health or discomfort among the work force

One year Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant experience with occupational medicine preferred.   State certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant required.     Must obtain or maintain competency and certification in NIOSH, OSHA, DOT, RADCON medical surveillance programs.     Demonstrated competency in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Occupational Health Manager (OHM) or similar system.  

Ability to work any shift as needed   Must be able to organize and maintain new services, tracking and processing of medical surveillance programs.     Must be able to educate employees on subjects such as health and wellness, injury prevention, illness and disease management.     Ability to suture, tend to minor illnesses or injuries, preliminarily read x-rays, perform complete physical examinations.     Other considerations:   - Mature, caring attitude - Team player - Ability to function independently - Willingness to learn/flexibility
