Through world-class facilities and people, we are driving ground-breaking advances in science and engineering. STFCs ISIS facility is a leading particle accelerator used to carry out research in the physical and life sciences. The facility performs cutting edge research into the structure and properties of materials at an atomic and molecular level, and is the most productive research centre of its type in the world. About The Role We are currently searching for an addition to our shift crew: a Duty Technician to join one of our shift crew teams to provide technical support for the safe operation of the accelerator and target stations. You will play a leading role in performing essential engineering duties including first line fault diagnosis and repair/replacement of failed equipment. You will be expected to respond to alarms from the Main Control Room (MCR) by taking appropriate action and ensuring that operations log books and databases are updated accurately, and will also be required to become a member of the RAL site Alarm Investigation Team. You will assist in first line diagnosis for the accelerator under high time pressure with the highest regard for personnel and equipment safety. This role involves performing various manual tasks, use of overhead cranes and working in confined spaces and at height. As ISIS operates 24/7, the shift crew teams (3 people form one crew) you would join currently work three eight hour shifts during weekdays and two twelve hour shifts at weekends throughout the year. You may also be asked to work overtime. You will be required to work in radiation areas and with active components as a classified radiation worker. About You You should have an ONC or significant relevant experience in an engineering discipline. A HNC/HND or degree level would be desirable.
