North Midland Construction is a national building, civil engineering and mechanical, electrical contractor with 70 years experience. With our Head Office based in Huthwaite, Nottinghamshire we operate through a number of strategically placed regional offices covering the whole of the British Isles; offering clients a one stop shop for their construction requirements. An opportunity has arisen for a Quantity Surveyor to work in our Utilities Division based at our office in Leeds, Yorkshire. The successful candidate will work alongside the contract delivery team to ensure the profitability, cash management, cost control and accurate reporting of schemes, within the Utilities division. The main duties include the responsibility for the following: Proactive management of cash flow to meet divisional targets. Ensuring that cash inflow is maximised, prompt resolution of any delays and negotiations with suppliers to extend terms where possibleOn project schemes, prepare and present accurate cost to complete forecasts in conjunction with the operational teamEnsure commercial challenge at all times to site teams and proactively engage with them to reduce costs and increase valueAttend internal and external commercial review meetingsEnsure variations are dealt with in a timely manner and accounts are invoiced in line with the required timescalesBuild client relationships and attend client offices to deal with final account issues through to resolutionManage the commercial aspects of subcontract accounts from procurement to interim and final account agreement with input from the operations teamsPreparation of / assistance with the evaluation and submission of claims for variation worksMaximising value and minimising cost, ensuring that appropriate controls are in place to monitor and manage the operating cost baseWorking with the operational teams to deliver and manage performance against the Profit Improvement Plan and Cash Improvement PlanEnsure that the delivery team are briefed and have sufficient commercial support to monitor and react to budget variancesEnsure that the group commercial policies are adhered to, that risk to the business is minimised and that the requirements of legislation are met Skills and Qualifications At least 5 years experience within a similar role within the Utilities sectorAn industry applicable ONC/HNC/BSc equivalentCommercial and contractual awareness with a proven track record of successA good level of competency of Microsoft packagesSelf-motivation, passion and a driven can do attitudeBe able to organise yourself and others workloadBe proactive in your approachAbility to multi-task and work to deadlinesAn excellent communicator
