Role Overview: We are currently recruiting for a number of positions within our Technical Services team as we grow and strengthen the service. The overall responsibility of the Lead Design Engineer is to ensure successful execution and completion of designs for a number of projects, meeting defined timescales, milestones, quality standards and commercial objectives. This will also involve managing relationships internal and external and upholding the Galliford Try Values. The Lead Design Engineer is responsible for the design of a number of projects within Galliford Try Process. The role is for experienced Senior Designers who have the capability to take on greater responsibility. It can also be a developmental role towards an Engineering Manager position. Key Accountabilities Responsible and accountable for the design outputs of a number of projects and reporting directly to the respective projects Project NA successful completion of each project design outputs ~ meeting the design requirements and the design / procurement related commercial objectives of each projectlead, co-ordinate and motivate the design team to meet the design deliverablesTo ensure all necessary interfaces are maintained and are communicating effectivelyMaintain excellent working relationships with the clients / partners and other potential onesTo work to continuously improve standards of performance and efficiencyTo fully own, lead and co-ordinate the design of a project (including process, mechanical, electrical, civil and CAD). Also to offer design support throughout the project (i.e. feasibility, outline design, detailed design, construction and commissioning)To produce a Design Activity Schedule and monitor the design and engineering activity within the schedule; thus ensuring that all the necessary design deliverables are achieved on timeSupport and maintain good communications with all members of the design and project NA develop best value, robust designs solutions which can withstand external challenge. To understand the design risk and assumptions associated with the project and manage this risk. To record the risks and assumptions as the project progresses. To ensure that the designers responsibilities under CDM are adhered to by allTo promote good H&S practice and minimise risks to operators / maintainers (e.g. designing out confined spaces and working from heights)To understand the environmental issues associated with the design and to manage them through the design processTo lead the design staff working on the project (including process, mechanical, electrical and CAD).Ensure the design team are working to the company procedures (i.e. Engineering, CAD and QA procedures). Identify potential improvements to the Galliford Try systems and proceduresIdentify, propose and test innovative NA post project reviews to identify and communicate lessons learnt and best NA identify opportunities for "additional work" for Galliford Try and support the Engineering Manager on engineering initiatives Experience and Qualifications: BEng (Hons) Engineering (relevant discipline based) or equivalentTo attain the appropriate IEng or CEng accreditation Knowledge: Detailed knowledge of the design process, engineering and in particular engineering designDetailed knowledge of their own engineering design discipline (i.e. process, mechanical or electrical).
