The Company Our client are a well-established organisation based in Newcastle are now looking to recruit an experienced health and Safety Advisor on a temporary basis up until March 2017. This is an exciting opportunity to be actively involved in the day to day management of Health and Safety to ensure the company complies with all relevant regulations. The Role To work proactively to ensure that Health and Safety issues are considered by managers in a timely manner, informing, negotiating and influencing as NA assist and advise management and staff on all matters affecting, or likely to affect, the Health and Safety of NA provide advice and support to staff, at induction and through the course of their employment / engagement, on a full range of Health and Safety - related matters, policy and procedure guidance and best NA, at regular intervals, routine inspections of the companies sites as appropriate, including Health and Safety inspections and fire risk assessments and provide reports on the NA co-ordinate procedures relating to Risk Assessments and COSHH assessments, ensuring that they are applied appropriately and providing advice and guidance to staff within the company as NA ensure the company has an appropriate and robust approach to fire safety, organising and monitoring fire evacuation drills, and first aid, maintaining records and providing reports as NA investigate the causes of all accidents at the earliest opportunity in liaison with Line Managers and the Head of Estates and completing necessary documentation, including accident records and NA the RIDDOR reporting requirements and notify SLT within 24hrs of a known or suspected RIDDOR NA liaise with the Human Resources department in relation to workstation assessments, requesting referrals to, and responding to referrals from Occupational Health where staff members have medical NA liaise as necessary with the Health and Safety Inspector and other such enforcement authorities as NA co-ordinate the Health and Safety budget, making recommendations for expenditure as NA of records and monitoring of all maintenance contracts required under Health and Safety NA with contractors and maintenance team to ensure all RAMS and required permits are in place for non-routine maintenance tasks, including management of permits and handover documentation for 3rd party telecommunications equipment NA maintain an active awareness of statutory requirements, UK Health and Safety law and upcoming changes, and contribute positively to the development of effective and appropriate Health and Safety policies and procedures and to ensure that these are implemented and delivered NA a positive role in the activities of the Safeguarding Committee and safety NA on-going commitment to raising standards and continuous improvement, and ongoing contribution to college policies and NA on-going engagement with / commitment to the colleges vision and values and to delivering against clear strategic objectives and targets, understanding your own contribution to the achievement of those NA promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons for whom you have responsibility or come into contact NA other tasks and responsibilities commensurate with the grading of the position. The Person Suitable to work with children and vulnerable adultsPossess a NEBOSH qualification (or equivalent)Literacy and Numeracy qualifications at a minimum of level 2 (or equivalent)A commitment to CPDStrong working knowledge of UK Health and Safety legislation and best practiceSubstantial experience working with a Health and Safety environment and providing Health and Safety advice to a wide range of managers, staff and external organisationsExperience in the preparation and delivery of induction and Health and Safety skills / awareness trainingStrong IT skills, in particular Word and Excel, ideally with experience of producing management reports / informationAbility to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skillsEvidence of developing and maintaining effective relationships - internal and external at all levels in a diverse environmentEvidence of developing and maintaining credibility with the ability to present technical / legislative information to members of staff and positively influence any outcomesAbility to demonstrate strong analytical and diagnostic skillsThe ability to reliably anticipate key trends and changes in UK Health and Safety legislation and associated areas, and translate high level documents into workable internal documents which are clear, understandable and add valueAbility to demonstrate a positive, proactive, "can do" and customer focused approachAble to demonstrate effective organisation skills with the ability to pay attention to detail and prioritise own workloadAbility to work under pressure and on own initiative, working accurately to deadlines and delivering against targets and internal SLAsBe able to work as part of a teamAbility to travel around the North East region
