Job Title: Electronic/Embedded Design Engineer Description: The design and development of electronic hardware for our printers and other products, as part of a small multi-disciplinary team. Location: Northwich, Cheshire. The position is full time, and is available immediately and has a wide range of responsibilities covering the entire design process from concept generation through to on-going development of product lines. The candidate should have experience of designing and developing microcontroller systems for real-time, embedded applications. We use Cadstar for PCB designs, and experience of this or similar tools is desirable. The design emphasis is on reliability and robustness, while also optimising manufacturability and cost. We are looking for an individual with hands-on experience and in-depth understanding of circuit design and PCB layout, whilst also capable of firmware development as necessary. The following are either essential or advantageous: Proven experience of design of microcontroller circuitry, preferably ARM, H8S and PIC family coresExpertise in circuit design, including, but not limited to, as many as possible of the following: control circuitry, load drivers, stepper motor control, signal conditioning, ADC, DC-DC converter design, battery management (e.g. NiMH, Li Ion, LiPo, LiFEPO4), design for EMC, design for mass-production including test equipment and systems, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, USB, Ethernet, NFC, RS-232 and many more elements Schematic capture and PCB layout using Cadstar, although training may be offered to those with experience of other CAD systemsExperience of firmware design (C or C++) for commissioning prototypes is essentialExperience of firmware development (C or C++) using structured coding guidelines is desirableExperience of PC software design (e.g. Python, VC, C# or VB), sufficient to establish communications with prototype targets is desirableCreating and maintaining full design and manufacturing record information to ISO 9001:2008 standardsBuilding, testing, debugging prototypes and early production modelsDesign of test equipment and procedures for high reliability production of volume partsExcellent presentation skills are essential for internal & external documentation and liaisonCompetence with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel etc) is expectedExperience of testing and compliance processes for EMC and other certifications (e.g. CE, LVD, CB, FCC, UL, CCC, etc)Experience of Android, iOS, Windows Mobile or other mobile OS We are looking for a graduate in Electronic Engineering or similar, who is able to work independently as part of a small multi-disciplinary team, specifically liaising with Firmware and Mechanical Design engineers. A positive attitude is essential, as is flexibility, creativity and pragmatism, combined with an in-depth understanding of real-world solutions. We are generally very busy, and this is an important role within the company, so dynamism and energy are prerequisites, but overtime and travel will rarely be required. The business has a major program of product development in progress and we have several projects ready and waiting for the right person to get stuck in!
