Operations Manager Location: Midlands Salary: A very good salary package, pension + incentive bonus Business Unit: Our client is a Midlands based sheet metal manufacturing business. In-house capabilities include laser cutting (including a new addition to the cutting department a state of the art fully automated Trumpf fibre laser cutting centre), CNC punching complete with a sheet feeding system for lights out production. Our clients extensive range of services also includes CNC press braking, spot welding, stud welding, permserting, mechanical and electrical assembly. Our client also has a cornplete welding department as well as all onwards fabrication capabilities. Opportunity: An excellent opportunity for an Operations Manager with a full understanding of production planning and scheduling and how these can be successfully managed in a busy service focused manufacturing business to achieve improvement and flexibility. Someone having a broad background in mechanical engineering/manufacturing with a wide range of knowledge on manufacturing and production processes, possess the ability to plan, implement and manage change in the business where necessary would be suitable. Experience of working with Laser Cutting and Sheet Metal Fabrication l would be a distinct advantage. The Role: The Operations Manager (OM) supervises the Companys manufacturing operations to ensure that they efficiently meet the needs of the Companys customersThe OM supports the Sales and Business Development Manager in the commercial relationships with clients including pricing and quotationsThe OM is responsible for planning and implementing improved workflow, efficiency and capacity of the production processes to meet the needs of the expanding businessThe OM will ensure that the appropriate policies representing current employment legislation are in place at the CompanyThe OM will assist in performing all tasks necessary to achieve the organisations strategic plans and help implement growth plans, including appropriate recruitment policies, reward incentives for performance and enforcing disciplinary procedures where necessary. Primary Responsibilities: Reduce delivery times to meet target customer and market requirementsMaintain and improve the quality of the manufactured output to meet quality targets Maximise the efficiency of the manufacturing processes by improving workflow and organizationOrganise and improve material flow into manufacturing to optimize availability and minimize inventory levelsControl costs throughout the Manufacturing Processes to improve profitabilityApply benchmarking and LEAN techniques to enable efficiency improvementsSupervise manufacturing staff and ensure they are motivated and performing to a high standard using performance measurement techniquesIdentify manufacturing process bottlenecks, propose and implement improvements to solve themPlan and implement new manufacturing processes where the adoption of new technologies provides an opportunity to improve quality and efficiencyManage and monitor the planned maintenance requirements throughout the manufacturing processesManage the movement of goods and materials into and out of the manufacturing facilitiesDeveloping constructive and co-operative working relationships with others in the CompanyIdentifying the training and developmental needs of others in the manufacturing staffAct as the Companys contact point for customersEnsure Health and Safety Regulations are adhered toPrepare and submit reports and other documentation Primary working relationships & interfaces: The job holder will need to work closely with the Sales and Business Development Manager, the Sales and Marketing team and the Directors of the businessDirect reports will include the Engineering Manager, Production Manager and the Purchasing function Developing and Maintaining relationships with key staff, suppliers and major customers Key skills required: Experience and a strong track record in a similar role are essential. Experience working in the sub-contract engineering manufacturing sector is also essentialLaser Cutting and Sheet Metal Fabrication manufacturing experience a major advantageKnowledge and understanding of engineering drawings essentialInterpersonal skills, as well as building and maintaining close trusting relationships internally and externallyGood negotiation skillsAbility to solve problems, taking a new perspective on existing solutions and exercising judgement based on the analyst of multiple sources of information.
