Our client is a long established, market leading designer and manufacturer of advanced marine propulsion systems that set the new standard for thrust, durability, and innovation for a wide variety of commercial, military, and workboat applications. They are looking for an experienced mechanical engineer to join the newly established UK arm (in Southampton) of this Australian/USA Company. Building upon the success of a recent $259m order from the US army, this company is going from strength to strength and has exciting expansion plans into Europe and you could be a key player from day 1. You would be required to spend some of your first 3 months in their USA facility learning about their product range and systems, before joining the UK office. There would be an ongoing requirement for international travel. This role offers a salary range of 25K-37K depending upon experience. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you would design and develop mechanical parts, components, and equipment and provide engineering, manufacturing and project management support. The position requires the engineer to perform all aspects of engineering, designing new products using computer-aided design software (SolidWorks) for modelling, drawing creation, and reverse engineering and component selection. The Mechanical Engineer is expected to develop mechanical component and technology strategies for new products while also identifying opportunities to improve existing products and have the ability to produce complex engineering drawings/diagrams and assist in assembly and troubleshooting of company NA to the drive for new innovations, you would also be heavily involved in IP and patent development so experience in these areas would be an NA ideal candidate will be excited by the idea of being part of something new in Europe and bring a wealth of design experience preferably from a marine engineering background, in particular with a knowledge of flow dynamics or rotational devices. As you will initially be part of a small team, you must be able to work without close supervision and be easily able to communicate with colleagues overseas. You must have a knowledge of operation, principles, and practices of engineering drafting and computer programs with advanced skills in SolidWorks CAD. You will be asked at interview for examples of components or equipment that you have designed, so this is not a role for someone with no prior design experience. As considerable international travel will be required, especially during the first year you must have the flexibility and drive to do NA will initially be interviewed by phone and if that goes well the next interview will be in Southampton.
