Business Manager - Weston super Mare Biffa is the UK`s leading integrated waste management company providing collection, recycling, treatment, disposal and technologically driven energy generation services across four operating divisions. We control the largest volume of waste in the UK which places us at the centre of a dynamic and growing sector, providing indispensable services to all UK businesses. We are looking for a Business Manager to head up our newest Municipal contract in North Somerset. Due to go live on the 1st March, you will be involved in setting up the contract and assisting with the TUPE of the current staff. Once the contract has launched you will be overseeing the municipal contract, covering refuse and recycling collections, 3 HWRC sites and a transfer station. Job Purpose: To ensure the operation of the staff and resources employed on the Contract is fulfilled to the satisfaction of both the Client and the Company whilst remaining within the constraints of financial targets and Company procedures Principal Accountabilities: 1 Working with Regional Manager and SMT create an annual budget and then ensure that this is achieved, delivering EBITDA targets or whatever the agreed measurement is. 2 Identify any opportunities for extra revenues on the contract from either growing the existing services with the client or third party work within the County. 3 Produce weekly Key Performance Indicators in line with both Company and client requirements are met and highlight any variances producing action plans to redress any negatives. Produce monthly forecasts of performance based on budget and actual performance. 4 To invoice the Client accurately, on time and in accordance with the Contract and to ensure that payment is received in line with contractual terms. 5 To compile and submit accurate monthly P&L summary and expenditure reports within set timescales. Identify any trends and produce action plans to redress any overspends. Review current performance and predict annual performance on a monthly basis. 6 Manage all contract staff through use of service managers, supervisors, shop stewards and worker committees etc. to ensure that all company procedures are followed, staff turnover is controlled, vacancies are filled promptly, agency usage is kept to a minimum and unauthorised absence is dealt with promptly and in line with contractual requirements. 7 Ensure that all Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and service standards that have been agreed with the client are achieved in accordance with the contract specification and submitted Method Statements and to create action plans to address any variances from the service standard. Produce Internal Key Performance Indicators weekly and a summary report presented to the Regional Manager with action points against variances 8 Effectively communicate regularly with the Authorised Officer and meet with the officer on a regular basis both verbal and written. 9 Ensure the health and safety of all company employees and site visitors under their control in line with the company`s procedures and the Health and Safety at Work Act. Ensure that all Company policies and procedures and legal obligations are adhered to and understood by all contracts staff. 10 Ensure that proposals for contract improvements, route optimisation, growth, staffing structures etc are directed through the appropriate channels. Cost / benefit analyses are produced for Board approval and delivered to budget & timescales agreed. 11 Ensure that all licences required in accordance with legislation are in place and maintained as current at all times. 12 Ensure that all vehicles and equipment are maintained accordingly to manufacturers` recommendations and in adherence with legislation including liaising with Biffa`s fleet department. 13 Liaise with the Quality and Systems Manager to ensure that all systems comply with the Company`s accreditations to ISO 9001, OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 14 Produce and submit quarterly EA returns and operate all sites in line with the relevant licensing and statutory requirements. 15 Develop succession plans for the depot and work with Regional Manager, Biffa Learning and Development team, HR partners to ensure these are actioned and delivered. This will include identifying Supervisors, frontline staff, administrators for development and producing Individual Development Plans for all concerned. 16 Work with Engagement Champions and local team to implement Employee Engagement Action Plan and develop this year on year. Ensure surveys are completed in line with timescales. Person Specification/Experience: CPC , IOSH , WAMITAB , COTC , NEBOSHExperience in waste industry or similar service delivery environmentEvidence of successful delivery of contracts
