Works Manager - Bridgenorth A great opportunity has arisen for a Works Manager for a historic and unique company in railway locomotive engineering, to be based at their Bridgnorth facilities. The Works Manager will ensure for this Heritage Railway that continues to provide services for vehicle enhancement and a full range of rolling stock engineering solutions, from train servicing through routine fleet maintenance to the heaviest of vehicle and component re-engineering projects for both their own fleet of locomotives and for external clients as well. Purpose of the position: To lead the planning and implementation of projects through to successful completion. Responsible for the routine maintenance, repairs, restoration and complete rebuilding of locomotives needed to meet the demands of the operation of the Railway and hire of locomotion to other Railways whilst generating income from third sub contract heavy engineering work whether maintenance or restoration. Key responsibilities: - Responsible for production of areas business plans and overhaul schedules Manage resource allocation for maintenance and overhaul tasks/projects. - Track project deliverables using appropriate tools. - Manage budget and finances. - Provide leadership and support the project and production team - Adopt best practice in layout and implementation of the most cost effective working arrangements (using lean and continuous improvement). - Uphold Quality assurance and risk management practices. - To have regard to the training needs and skill development of personnel both permanent and volunteers. - Ensure health and safety of staff and all operations undertaken in the department in accordance with the Safety Management System and Policy. - The planning and implementation overhaul and maintenance of locomotives for the provision of services, charter trains for internal and external use. - Assist in obtaining Sub Contract work to complement the day to day maintenance and overhaul of the locomotive fleet. Professional experience and/or qualifications: - HNC qualified in engineering or equivalent experience. - Experience in managing projects in a heavy engineering environment. - Engineering re-build / overhaul experience in a heavy engineering field. - Working to a high maintenance and overhaul standard within a safety critical arena. - Previous experience of managing a workshop and staff. Experience in a project and production/manufacturing environment. - Proven experience in people management, planning, Health and Safety and risk management and techniques. - Minimum of 5 years" relevant experience. - Knowledge of locomotives desirable but not essential.
