This position will support the Houston based U.S. Tax Compliance team with respect to income tax compliance of BHP Billiton. Compliance responsibilities include preparation and / or supervision and review of the annual separate company federal and state income tax returns and secondary tax filings. The Tax Specialist is expected to handle and supervise multiple tasks and be able to meet a variety of tax return filing deadlines.

Experience & Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA / CA preferred
  • Oil and gas industry experience desirable
  • International and foreign tax credit knowledge desirable
  • A minimum of seven years of tax compliance experience including federal, state and international corporation income taxes
  • Experience in complex tax calculations including depreciation, depletion, foreign tax credit, Section 199 and AMT calculations
  • Working knowledge of various indirect/secondary taxes
  • Knowledge of accounting for income taxes (IAS12)
  • Experience with SAP, OneSource and Microsoft Office desirable
  • Proven attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong problem solving, analytical and communication skills
  • Superior interpersonal skills to handle various customer and stakeholder groups

  • Prepare, supervise and review U.S. federal and state corporate income tax returns including entities operating in foreign jurisdictions
  • Prepare and submit requests for income tax payments to various tax authorities
  • Prepare and review fixed asset tax depreciation, depletion and gain/losses calculations
  • Research and document income tax positions and processes
  • Prepare provision-to-return tax reconciliations
  • Provide clear, accurate and timely information to Tax Advisory group for transaction planning and other tax planning initiatives
  • Support IRS and state income tax audits
  • Participate in streamlining processes and benchmarking
  • Keep up-to-date on tax law and its impact on the organization
  • Participate in SOX certification process for all tax compliance controls and processes
  • Support other special project assignments
