The Corporate Counsel functions as a key member of Schindler Elevator Corporation's (Canada) business management team, and must possess excellent legal and business judgment. The position is responsible for providing legal advice and guidance related to a wide range of commercial and business matters. This position would report directly to the President, Schindler Elevator Corporation (Canada) with a dotted line to the Vice President and General Counsel-Americas. Key Responsibilities: Advise and Interpret Advise on regulatory, compliance and employment related mattersProvide outstanding legal support to business partners (internal clients) across the Schindler(Canada) organizationDraft, review, and negotiate construction, service, supply and other commercial agreements and documents assuring that both legal and business objectives are metContinuously work to improve contracting structure and processes, as well as implementation and adherence to best practicesManage litigation in areas that include personal injury, commercial disputes and employmentProvide guidance to the organization on all legal matters affecting the businessAssure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements Contract negotiationReview all contracts or any other documentation where the Company has committed itself and assess legal implications that need to be brought to the executive management's attentionPrepare, review and modify contractual instruments to assist and support various business activitiesNegotiate, review and draft documentation for business transactions and prepare and advise on the necessary checklist to be adopted to ensure information is submitted on time. Risk and Crisis ManagementWork with senior management to assess, develop and implement risk strategiesLiaise with relevant departments to ensure that where legal risks have been identified, appropriate courses of action have been NA system that identifies areas of criticality or high risk from a legal perspective and designs contingency plans around each identified NA all necessary parties as to courses of action dependent on a crisis occurring Education and Experience: Minimum degree of BA in Law with excellent academic credentialsMinimum 10 years of relevant experience at a top law firm or as in-house counselExperience preferred to be in construction or relevant industries with extensive transactional and commercial agreementsMember in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada, and qualified to practice law in OntarioSuperior judgment and ability to provide practical, solution oriented legal adviceExcellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skillsBroad practice area experience with a core competency in drafting, analyzing and negotiating contractsConfidence and proven ability to work with senior management and company personnel at all levelsSelf-motivated and highly proficient in the ability to multi-task, prioritize a high volume of diverse matters and tasks, and handle unplanned workAbility to work collegially with diverse personnelAdvanced negotiation skills, able to work effectively to objectives with the personal sensitivity to manage negotiations with a range of stakeholdersUtilize and manage external legal expertise on complex mattersHandle crisis management Critical Skills:Proficient in MS OfficeAnalytical: ability to think conceptually to have impact, ability to understand complex tasks/situations/problems, analyze them using a systematic approach and identify trends or relationshipsCommunication: Excellent written and oral communication skillsCustomer Service: Posses customer oriented attitudeOrganization: Possess excellent organizational skillsProblem Solving: Information seeking and achievement orientationTeamwork: Ability to work well within a team environmentApproach: Self-confidence with the ability to think conceptually and analytically to have impact, information seeking and achievement orientation Please submit your resume, and cover letter discussing your work experience and qualification for the position.
