General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS), a market leader and technology innovator, is seeking talented professionals to deliver cutting edge solutions to our customers.

General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) has an immediate opening for a Systems Engineer to join our Physical Security Systems team in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. This engineer will work as part of a cross-functional team to support the design, integration, and test of critical physical security infrastructure for the United States Navy. The position provides an opportunity to develop and advance the cutting-edge technology that supports one of our nation's fundamental defense services. GDMS employees work closely with esteemed clients to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions. The selected candidate's primary focus will be the integration and efforts associated with the Nuclear Weapons Security (NWS) program, which provides the integrated hardware and software platforms that protect our nation's strategic assets. The individual will enhance his/her skill set by working in a challenging and fast-paced environment with a talented and technically accomplished group of colleagues. The employee must be flexible and able to work in a very dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

The Systems Engineer will provide technical expertise required to support the NWS Contract. Specific responsibilities may include:

  • Provide technical expertise to perform COTS software integration and test.

  • Provide subject matter expertise for Windows Operating Systems.

  • Analyze, design, develop, and test software baseline deliveries to ensure the successful integration of software, hardware, reliability, maintainability and safety.

  • Build, configure, troubleshoot, and integrate new and existing servers/clients running Microsoft Windows on both new and fielded information systems.

  • Create and update build, integration, and test documentation.

  • Analyze and/or administer security controls for information systems in lab and field environments.

  • Work closely and collaborate with Integrated Product Teams (IPTs).

  • Adhere to and propose improvements to both NWS and GD engineering processes.

  • Establish and maintain positive customer relationships built on trust and respect.

  • Mentor teammates in areas of technical expertise.

  • Exercise creative thinking and ideation to advance our business performance.

  • Suggest improvements and innovations in design and implementation to enhance system performance and meet customer changing business needs.

  • Support and engage in programs, projects, and practices behind the General Dynamics culture and strategy, and comply with all policies and procedures.

  • Follow industry and department trends and developments to ensure General Dynamics services are consistent with, and/or superior to, industry best practices.

  • Identify and support advance concept efforts in support of Mission and Strategic Systems strategic plans and objectives.

Additional Responsibilities:

Additionally, this engineer may be required to support business management functions within General Dynamics, including pursuits, proposals, and Research and Development efforts.

Candidates must show a passion for innovation, a sophisticated understanding of emerging technologies, and the ability to work directly with government customers in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

This Systems Engineer position requires a bachelors degree in a specialized area, field or the equivalent and up to two years of related work experience. Applicants with a masters degree are also eligible.

Department of Defense secret clearance is preferred at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
