Manage the works in accordance with Company and Site Specific procedures covering Safety, Environment, Quality and Production.|
Ensure works are carried out with full consideration of safety, and in compliance with our Safety Procedures as defined in the Safety Matters Folders, Policies & SMS (POL/SPS/001), any Contract Requirements, and the site Health and Safety Plan.
Defined as the Site Manager in the Safety Matters folder, Policies & SMS (POL/SPS/001).
For rail work, act in accordance of the requirements of the Site Manager (Rail) Safety Responsibility Statement.
Maintain good relations with Clients and their professional advisors.
Represent the company at meetings held in connection with your work and protect the companys interests at such meetings.
Lead and motivate all members of your site team. Hold or attend regular meetings to co-ordinate activities of all team members, including the supply chain.
Where you are responsible for the management of an entire project or projects, ensure the following tasks are carried out in accordance with our Procedures. Where you are responsible for a section of a Larger Project ensure the following are carried out as appropriate to the section or as directed by the Project Manager:
o Review all Contract Documentation and handover information to ensure you have a comprehensive understanding of the scope and specification of and any constraints on them. By review of the Contract and discussion with QS have a good understanding of the Terms and Conditions.
o Prepare the Contract Programme, in accordance with contract requirements (if any). Agree with Contracts Manager the resources required in advance of the works.
o Mark up progress and produce updated programmes at the intervals dictated by the Contract and our Procedures, or as required by events on site.
o Produce weekly work schedules, pre-costed where appropriate, but in any case to ensure the economic utilisation of labour and plant.
o Produce Method Statements, and have measures in hand to monitor and control compliance with them.
o Carry out all administration routines required by the Project Plan and the Procedures, including keeping a site diary for works under your control, production of plant returns, material received sheets, timesheets etc.
o In conjunction with the Contracts Manager and Commercial Team decide works to be subcontracted. Work with the Commercial Team in appointing suitable subcontractors. Liaise with the Quantity Surveyor and attend/chair Tender Interviews with key subcontractors and otherwise as appropriate to ensure all production aspects of the subcontractors bid, including programme, access, qualifications and attendances, are agreed on terms acceptable to us.
o Ensure accurate take-off and timely requisition of materials to facilitate the works. Have measures in place to minimise wastage and keep it within tender targets.
o Minimise costs and wastage of materials, plant and labour.
o Management of construction information, drawings and specifications, including updating with changes and variations to ensure all construction is carried out to the latest requirements/revisions/variations/instructions. Ensure all information is circulated to the appropriate members of the construction team and supply chain.
o Review construction drawings and specifications to identify insufficiency of information, ambiguities or inconsistencies in advance of carrying out the works. Issue RFIs in sufficient time to obtain clarification from the clients designers or our design team without causing unavoidable delay or disruption.
o Ensure all verbal instructions are confirmed in writing in accordance with Contract requirements before proceeding with the instructed works.
o Manage subcontractors, including works off site, issuing necessary notices to commence, monitoring and controlling progress and quality of works on site.
o On Design and Build Projects manage the designers, including monitoring design progress against programme and liaising over value management opportunities, and co-ordinating the drawing approval process.
o Ensure that all necessary correspondence, notices instructions and records are in place to protect our contractual position with Subcontractors and Designers.
o Identify any events, changes or variations which may delay and or disrupt regular progress on site. Liaise with the Contracts Manager and the Commercial Team to decide appropriate notices to be issued and contemporary records to be kept to protect our interests. Ensure agreed contemporary records are maintained.
o In conjunction with the Quantity Surveyor produce the Monthly Site Report.
o Present regular Tool Box talks to site operatives.
Form good professional relationships with subcontractors and ensure they are dealt with in a professional and reasonable fashion.
Supervise and develop subordinates to ensure they carry out their duties efficiently and effectively. Provide coaching to all subordinates and members of the site team.
Where Graduate Trainees are under your supervision then, in consultation with the Engineering Manager and the trainee, ensure as far as reasonably possible that they are delegated tasks and given responsibilities which enable them to properly progress their experience requirements under their training scheme.
Maintain a continuous interest and study of new techniques and developments in construction, and existing and new regulations affecting the companys works.
Carry out other tasks that may be necessary or which you may be asked to do from time to time.
