We are looking for Project Director to join our team in Johannesburg, South Africa

Your role

This position will be the P&L leader for the TRAXX project in South Africa with overall responsibility for delivery, governance and customer relationship. This position is based in South Africa, Johannesburg and it will be required to travel between Durban and Johannesburg frequently, the successful candidate will have managed a large project in His /Her career (approx. value1$ billion Dollars) and will be commercially aware and with strong customer management skills. It's not compulsory but it would be good if the candidate has rolling stock manufacturing experience and experience in running projects in contract related engineering. We are open for candidates from the field of petrochemicals, construction or rail. Ability to manage internal stakeholder, matrix management and complex working relationship in large company is preferred.

The Project Director acts within the boundaries of the contract with the full power of the Division President's authority to deliver the object of the contract to the customer and to deliver the targeted margin to Bombardier. To this effect, the Project Director leads the Project Core Team in the successful completion of their assigned tasks within schedule, allocated budgets and scope to the required quality. The Project Director will lead the project and cope with the unique challenge of continually focusing the functions pro-actively managing their delegated budgets, meeting their schedules and delivering on their obligation. The Project Director shall lead the team with the view of the full project including areas outside the own division and the overall impact on BT performance.
The Project Director is responsible to apply the key Project Management Processes and the applicable tools for the implementation, and is accountable for the strict and efficient application thereof.

The Project Director has to ensure that all Project Core Team members have sufficient financial and reporting governance and to ensure all risks and opportunities are properly addressed and mitigated.

Your responsibilities

1- Functional duties to the project core team

Responsible for the Detailed Project Schedule, Customer Interface, Project Risk, Opportunity and Improvement Management, Project Launch (including the Orange Book), Change Management and Contractual Obligation Management, Budget allocation and monitoring, Project Reporting internally both status and financial performance.

2- Leadership duties within the project core team

The Project Director has the authority and the obligation to review the effort of the Project Core Team members and to give directives related to the project execution, as such will be involved in the PMP objective setting process for all Project Core Team members.

It is also the mandate of the Project Director to define and secure the support of the business partners and extended project team.

Responsible for management of all communication with the Customer.

Lead the Project Core Team effort to meet periodic financial targets.

The Project Director is responsible for adapting his/her leadership and motivational skills to the project, the team or individual's capabilities and knowledge, the time and tools available and the results desired. (S)he will develop "must do" strategies to increase team effectiveness and the belief that "none of us is as good as all of us.", in order to help the team go through the distinct stages of 'forming, storming, norming and performing'

3- Specific responsibilities to other project core team roles

It is also the mandate of the Project Director to adapt the allocation of work packages between the roles and the day-to-day delegation of special tasks to the Project Core Team members in order to optimize the total project
The Project Director has a specific communication responsibility to the Project Directors of Sub-Divisions.



• Minimum of 15-20 years of experience post graduate with 10 years of leadership experience
• Proven leadership performance (i.e. PMP, 360° feedback)
• International working experience
• Experience running large projects
• Strong communication skills to negotiate internally and externally at high levels
