Job Summary
AECOM is a leading provider of engineering, construction and technical services for public agencies and private sector companies around the world. The company also offers cultural resource management services for the U.S. federal government, state and local government agencies, Fortune 500 companies and other multinational corporations. The Cultural Resource Division of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Entry Level Archaeological Technician for temporary employment with the Burlington, New Jersey office. However, the candidate will be working exclusively out the for Pittsburgh, PA office. This is a part-time variable position, meaning work days and times will be determined on an as-needed basis. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in cultural resources management, specific to conducting field investigations, artifact analysis and report preparation.

AECOM is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects. Some of the projects the incumbent can look forward to include Phase I, II and III investigations for various pipeline and transmission projects in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, New York, and Virginia.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Conducting archaeological investigations/excavations
  • Screen soil deposits
  • Take accurate field notes
  • Draw accurate profiles and plan views
  • Record archaeological field data
  • Use digital camera; process artifacts (wash, mark and catalog) and perform basic analysis of artifacts
  • Re-bag and re-box artifact collections for final curation and perform basic research on manufacturing processes as it relates to recovered artifacts
  • Must be able to work effectively in both the field and laboratory as part of a team

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology, History, or related field or higher and attended an archaeological field school
  • Ability to communicate clearly
  • Some experience with conducting laboratory analysis of both prehistoric and historic material and with writing archaeological technical reports
  • Knowledge of basic field excavation techniques, ability to process (wash, catalog and mark) recovered archaeological artifacts, properly fill out field as well as laboratory forms, and perform extensive manual labor including excavation with shovels and moving buckets and wheelbarrows filled with dirt
  • Must be able to extensively perform bending, kneeling standing and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have a tolerance for working in outdoor environments, prolonged walking and standing on various terrain in a wide range of weather conditions
  • Candidate must have basic knowledge of GIS applications
  • Valid Driver's License with a good driving record and the flexibility to travel overnight and out of state for up to 3 months at a time

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to utilize PC data base programs
  • Execute assignments with limited instructions
